Do you think Kabir Singh has done wonders for Shahid?

Shahid Kapoor totally reinvented himself with Kabir Singh. Looking decidedly dishy in an unkempt beard, he was outstanding as the decaying lover. He was violent and virile, determined to destroy himself over a messy break-up. His attention towards punishing himself is riveting and he was the human equivalent of a train-wreck that you can’t help rubber neck. Kabir stopped you in your tracks with his uninhibited act. The scenes in which he raged around like a bull or came unhinged were absolute gold.

Having said that, I don't think it was just his performance that has done wonders for him, because he was even better in Haider and that movie went unnoticed by the majority and did nothing for his stardom.

But Kabir Singh has definitely boosted his stardom and he has become much more commercially viable. I'm pretty sure Jersey will have a great opening as well. This, not despite the toxic mess of a character he was portraying, but because of the toxicity precisely. Let's not forget, the toxicity was why the film worked, the terrifying misogyny was romanticised excessively and devoured by the audience who either identified with it or wanted to identify with it, I don't know which.

Yep, Shahid has reinvented himself completely. John is another actor who was also able to reinvent himself.

I don’t know but going by the general perception, it seemed to have put him even above the two Rans which at one point didn’t look likely at all.

I'm not 100% onboard with the statement that Kabir Singh helped Shahid become more commercially viable. It did help but it was just another hit. The film was controversial for it's content and it was more about the director than Shahid so Shahid didn't really gain much or let me say that he got what he would have gotten for any other hit film.

Coming to the portrayal, Shahid always goes the extra mile. Be it Haider, Udta Punjab or Kaminey. So, no surprises there.

Shahid reinvented himself quite a few times, I remember when everyone wrote him off he did a Haider. He has a very loyal fanbase.

Shahid is that underdog everyone thought would be a superstar but kept struggling due to bad choices and had himself overtaken by younger lot

But he does have lot of ppl rooting for him ...possibly the ones who were teens/pre teens during ishq Vishq and had a crush on him since then 😅

I don't why shahid gets such little hype and appreciation. He deserves so much praise for his acting.

I agree this film gave SK some great goodwill and put his star up there in a top ten sense

Absolutely! After Rambo Rajkumar and Phata Poster or whatever stupid name that movie was called, only a miracle could have saved Shahid's image as a bankable actor.

He resurrected himself really well but I think a major portion of that credit goes to Haider. That movie was SO good, so well made and it probably has to do with the entire crew of talented artists like Tabu, Irfan, etc. adding their own magic to the movie, but it came together perfectly and overnight, Shahid was back. What a performance!

Kabir Singh was an entertaining movie, problematic bits and all. While I don't know how well it did in India and how much of an impression it left on people, having watched the movie myself, I do think that helped further re-establish himself as a bankable actor not just as someone who can pack a powerhouse performance but also commercially... and I'll also add that it helped him reclaim his lost female fan following.😆

From nearly on his way out, he's now back to being an all-rounder and it took him a fight and a half to get there.
