Unpopular opinion maybe, but I loved the movie Fitoor. Based on Great Expectations, the movie acc. to me is a work of art, with certain wonderful elements which add a pinch of magic to the cinematic experience. Though it was considered a commercial and critical failure, I watched it in the theatre and fell in love with the way the movie incorporates artistic sensibility into a mainstream venture. Something about the way Aditya Roy Kapoor's character envisions Katrina's character is so poetic and surreal. Also, the texture of love portrayed is exquisitely ethereal, a tad removed from the commonplace.
Also, Katrina looks like a dream and Aditya Roy Kapoor is eye candy as well. But I don't just mean that the movie works at the visual level - the emotions are heartfelt too - love and loss and reconciliation depicted with maturity and pulsating with fervour.
It may not be the best adaptation of Great Expectations but the movie works at a raw, visceral level. And the music is SUBLIME. I think it was the second best soundtrack of 2016, after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The music has a haunting quality about it and the melody lingers long after you finish listening to the songs. Of course, Amit Trivedi the master composer is at his unique best here.
