If you follow a traditional Indian diet , it is indeed ingeniously crafted and super healthy

- we have fasting days : this works in the same way as intermittent fasting

- we have specific months where we don’t eat non veg/ certain foods ...again encourages sustainability/ allows breeding time

- we have practices to eat seasonal fruits and veggies...millets, hand pounded rice , grains that are rich in nutrients and fibre

- we use oils like mustard, peanut, coconut, ghee etc which have high smokigg by points and don’t oxidise easily under high heat

- we use pickling to develop probiotic bacteria and eat fermented foods like dosa, idli , achaar etc which are gr8 for gut

- most of our desserts made with seeds, nuts, lentils and millets - unprocessed foods mostly

Define “ tonnes”

Most Indian households don’t have tonnes when making home cooked meals

Ghee and coconut have found to be beneficial for their short chain and medium chain fatty acids...they aid in hormonal well being

Most Indian households use it in a normal amount ...even if they use 2 tablespoons per curry, that is shared amongst 3-4 people with leftovers

They don’t make samosas everyday at home and don’t drown their food in ghee and oil

Deep fried foods are traditionally only made on festivals I.e once in a while

The “drowning in oil” happens in restaurants which is never a standard for healthy eating anyway in any cusine

Indian cusine uses lots of herbs and spices that aids in digestion too

Now if some people prefer eating hakka noodles with a side of butter chicken and biriyani from their fav restaurant , then ofcourse they will get obese

No one got fat from eating home made poha, upma, idli, dosa, khichdi, dal rice etc

Its not food. Its the amount oil, butter and fried items Indians use, combined with lack of exercise, India has one of the most unheathy population in the world. Indian food can be super healthy if they dont use so much oil and eat so many fried items.

I mentioned the word TRADITIONAL for the same reason. U cannot generalise Indian cuisine, each region has its own style, cooking method and specific ingredient. And not every region uses huge amounts of junk for taste enhancing. The fried food you're talking about is junk food and street food which isn't meant for everyday consumption. Your food intake should depend on ur lifestyle, work intensity and metabolism rate.

Food is healthy till some genius has the idea to drown it in butter, cream, oil.

And Indian meals are the perfect balance of carbs, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals. Roti (made of whole grain), vegetables (home cooked in little oil and lightly spiced), rice and dal (lentils: full protein) and yoghurt (natural pro biotic; helps in digestion).

And if ur referring to the Fitness app's information regarding India being the most unhealthy population, please go and see the village population which comprises of majority of the country. They'll put the rest of us to shame. 70 something year olds are on their feet for hours and work relentlessly, kids are also stronger and have more stamina than most adults. But they don't download fitness apps.

Problem is in the amount of oil and salt and carbs used in diet.

A clear look at the amount of heart disease in the country would be enough to dispel myths about Indian risk factors.

https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/full/10.1161/circulationaha.114.008729

Again no....we are omnivores BY CHOICE, not by ANATOMY. Our mouth structure and teeth are not meant for non vegetarian food. Its comparatively a new theory but the way we move our jaws makes us natural vegetarians. And this is coming from a non vegetarian so I need to evaluate my food choices too.

Material changes too. North Indians will use rice in biryani with meat etc while South indians will steam it and use it for Idli, Neer Dosa etc. Compare Litti-Chokha to Dal-Baati-Churma. They look similar but are they the same?

How can u generalise Indian cuisine? I studied regional cuisine for a year including their nutritional value and ingredients used so I know what I am talking about.

Punjabi, Mughlai, Gujarati even elements of Rajasthani cuisine are extremely unhealthy. But not Maharashtrian, South Indian, Himachali and UP-Bihar cuisine.

Adding tonne of oil, salt etc is a choice and majority Indian households do not follow that choice. They don't even cook non vegetarian food everyday (the main cause for cholesterol buildup and all those elements that cause heart issues). Staple Indian food for majority is using vegetables, unlike abroad where roasted meat with potatoes, a very small portion of salad or white bread cold cut meat sandwiches are popular.

Punjabis enrich their food, Mughal food is already very rich in calories and fat content, Rajasthanis have besan in almost everything and tonne of hing and farsan with every meal and Gujaratis are known for their snacks and sugar content in food. That does not include the remaining states of India.

A well balanced Indian meal does not have more carbs than proteins, it has the right balance which u can adjust according to your need. You don't need to add 3 tablespoons of ghee to your dal-chawal, just a small amount suffices and is proven good for health.

Hence generalising Indian food is absurd.

Read Pathaka's post above mine as well, she's framed a lot of things very well.

Also I don't think they celebrated his birthday this way every year. It's a good thing actually. It might have made him happy for a moment and less lonely. Losing your younger siblings are the hardest, he literally watched them grow infront of him, he's literally their parent. I can't even imagine myself in this situation!

Randhir kapoor is 76 years

He himself has many health issues

So nothing wrong in celebrating his birthday

Rajeev was like 20 years younger so more like a son only for Randhir Kapoor

It must be devastating for him

Now hes alone in that mansion no one with him

Is Neetu living i the mansion? No i think

Why do not one younger child move with him? Why leave aged so alone?

That causes depression and drinking etc

If plenty of ppl are there around you mind is happy so less drinking, smoking etc

I would say this on indian cusine

It was actually meant for farmers, labourers and warriors very physically active people

Idli, dosa, rice, biryani, non veg, ghee is all ok in min quantity but we tend to eat a lot

All these have carbs, sugar and fat which can lead to various diseases

Only 20-30% veg and rest all carb etc is not that good for health

Till 20th century ppl were pretty active like farmer, labourer,, warrior class

Now all sit in office or home 14 hours a day and walk around 1-2 hours a day where it will digest?

It will go into body as fat and sugar causing diabetic and cholestrol only

Further how are veg, rice, wheat created using so many deadly chemicals - you eat food or drink water it has deadly chemicals

Thats only enough to kill you by 60 years no matter you excercise 10 hours a day no use

After that ghee, oil, non veg, sweets, alcohol, cigarette etc its a dangerous for health

I don’t quite agree that Indian food is meant to be for people doing framer level activity

It is important to Excercise and be physically active- period . Humans weren’t made to sit in one spot and vegetate. Out lifestyles play a huge role .....

but u don’t need to go crazy in the gym to be able to “burn off” what u eat

A holistic approach focuses on wellness, nutrition, satiety and fitness ...not calories or macros

A glass of diet soda has 0 calories. A banana has 90 calories.
a diet focused on “carbs and sugars” would suggest u drink the soda - why not it’s got 0 calories and no sugar...

But a diet focused on wellness would insist u eat the banana- it’s way more nutritious

Being healthy is more common sense and less calculation

A holistic approach ensures u remain active , energetic, don’t spend a fortune on fancy exotic foods, maintain ur satiety signals so u know when to stop eating
