So funnily this was the first gen I saw from the start and that's why I chose this gen itself, because the writing is abysmal. No track or character has gotten a proper closure, har koi dusre din aise flip maarta hai as if pehle ka kuch bhi nahi hua and somehow there isn't a single character to root for or connect. I agree and toxic storytelling sells, and in YRKKH, the more episodes you get, the more trash you’re guaranteed to be served. Sometimes I wonder if being the shortest season of all was actually the kindest mercy the audience could receive even if they are not ready to move on yet.

Gen 4, with all its faults, still achieved a milestone because turning a supposedly “doomed” season into nearly 700 episodes’ worth of drama is no small feat.

But put them in comparison to the other shows on the channel of their time and you'll see why the show has managed to stay a) on air and b) within top 5 consistently despite ALL complaints we may have with the writing!!

Rishta and the makers might not have the sensitivity to deal with any issues or tracks properly, yet they do know how to sustain.. as we can see clearly!

This gen I've had so many complaints including the most recent track! Yet the gen has somehow managed to sustain..and sustain beyond it's preceding gen with less than half the budget or star power! So hate watch it or troll watch it.. the show and the makers are staying and staying unbothered!!

But yes, it is but normal for standards to keep slipping as time goes by …guess Gen 5 will make Gen 4 look Oscar worthy 🤷🏻‍♀️

This season is the biggest joke , comparing with the one I watched that was Season 3.

Usually FLs will turn mahanatha ki moothy doormat , so the change of Abira's character from a " shining star " to " charcoal " can understand ....Since PLs are expected to behave in a certain way G2 also is as the .PL of Ektha ...

The biggest shocking factor is the ML in this season...

There was no real reason given for him that made him " abusing Abira , insulting her " ( last round)...Earlier to satisfy Vidya he humiliated her , that was to please step mother.

His kidnapping of baby Phookie denying both the baby and mother 7 yrs of their life ( important years ) make ML one of the terrible one ...

Every lead had a " reason " to go away but not this fellow..He is beyond reasoning ...

But this post is about the generation as a whole and not one single character ..whether he is better or worse than other MLs is not the topic of debate :)

I think you should have removed gen 2 as well cause for majority time it had that family feed good vibes+ leads love story+ social issues track. I think it went downhill with baby akshara born (lol so funny root cause of all issues) and then naira dying and bringing Sirat

And someone who followed gen 3 during the original air time through india forums and later binge watched, even if I hated khera track leap for 1 year, till that track and remarriage show balanced characters and drama properly. Even white day was a good high point which is still debatable. After that it went downhill, and it's just not abhinav or abhiraOG not uniting. Unnecessary villainizing one character , not able to decide what fl wants, killing off abhinav, the laughable kids thing to set up abhi and akthu were funny. When it ended everyone was like Good riddance

This gen has been joke since start. People can mock Pratiksha and shehzada all they want but atlst the starting cast of ruhi Rohit Arman were great. For replacement only ruhit stick imo. Ropu can't act. His crying is so funny, his angry scenes has undertones of abuse. His romance with abhira shows in age gap. And to match him samridhi styling has gone to dogs. In this bacha obsessed gen till daksh reveal that was okayish. After that loads of bs and I am glad garvita is gone.

Of course, this generation. I have been watching ITV since childhood but have never seen such a disgusting pos ML in all my life of watching shows. I thought RK was bad, but at least that character was highly entertaining, well written, and well acted and less harmful. But here, neither is the character written well, nor is he a good human being, nor is he acted well. Worse, he’s a villain but is glorified, shown as a male lead, and in trying to whitewash him, they destroyed the whole season.

Gen 3 I have not seen much of at all ..except for the fag end when I heard Rishta had done what they had never done before ..break up a pair and get one of them to move on with a third angle ..and even make him the father of the next gen FL..that was huge for Rishta and so I came back to check why and what ..and got stuck here …more’s the pity

With re to age gap romance, the male leads of both Gen 3 and Gen 4 were established as extremely successful in their professions …and no one becomes a successful doctor or lawyer under thirty ..it takes around mid thirties ..so I did not find either pairing odd …on the contrary, the originally cast actor did not give off the vibes of a super successful lawyer which is what the character’s definition was …he came across as too young and immature to me …

As for acting, I guess we will have to agree to disagree …i have not had a problem with the replacement and in fact found both the originally cast male and parallel lead substandard ..and seemingly the audiences have taken well to the new Armaan too …because his character received a lot more focus after Rohit stepped in and tracks have revolved around him …obviously that has also made Armaan the scapegoat … by making the FL blameless unlike in Gen 3 or even Gen 2 as far as I know, they have made Armaan be the trigger for every twist in the tale …!

Absolutely agree - this gen running so long (won't say successfully) despite shitty budgets and no star power really says a lot about the people who have still made the show interesting enough for the TRP aunties to tune in everyday. They may write the worst tracks and degrade their leads to suit their needs, but they do know how to hold on to their audience

Gen 4 is the worst in my opinion in terms of character writing and storylines

Started of very good but its really downhill.Previous gens had a family vibe kind of picture but this gen turned out to be really toxic.Vidya is one hell of a saas and her character had a major part in increasing toxicity

Abhira's infertility was dealt with insensitivity and that was a major part in making her character a doormat.Armaan's character was bearable before their marriage but he too went downhill after that.The Baby exchange started the downfall in story and characters.

Earlier gens had aesthetic and this gen lacked a aesthetic in terms of Sets,Styling and editing and color grading.Dialogues felt cringe and really immature at times.

I feel Armaan's character could have been developed more in terms of grey shades or making him a anti hero kind of thing.He turned out to be annoying frankly.

Gen 4 failed in dealing with sensitive issues and character traits and writing.

The leap was not executed well too.I feel leap was really not planned well.

Actors cannot rise above script and I feel they could have been given better character arcs and scripts and they werent utilised well.

I have not watched any of the previous gens, so can't make a comparison between the gens. But the story line is definitely much worse and regressive than what I signed up for with toxicity and insensitive handling of sensitive subjects.

Having said that this gen leads for all the name calling they get subjected to seem to be the only lead couple across itv in current times who has consistently maintained for so long both online popularity as well as decent trp numbers. And for good or bad the gen has survived this long and beyond everyone's initial expectations. This is inspite of the fact that none of the cameos made any significant impact and got exit fairly quickly - unlike the previous gens. So yes inspite of all the complaints we are still here discussing the show, show is consistently in top 5, sm traction is strong .... makers and channel seem to be getting what they want.
