Best director who is liked by both masses and classes?

I think these 4 directors are liked by both the masses (their films work at the box-office) as well as classes ( they are critically successful and reviewed positively).

Who is the best director out of these 4, in your opinion?

As far as I know, Anurag Basu's movies are all hits barfi was 100 crore plus, and was liked by both masses and classes.

Same goes for Shujoy Ghosh -- Kahaani and Badla were huge hits.

Shoojit Sircar I was a bit ambiguous about, but I think Vicky Donor was a movie which was for both classes and masses.

Also, who else fits the slot?

Raju Hirani of course fits the bill to the T, hence he would win this poll rightfully.

But most directors are at the two extremes -- I think there are very few who please both masses and classes.

I had to put options of directors who have got hits, but have been critically appreciated.

Since when Raju hirani made classy movies ? It’s impossible to make the so called “classy “ movie and still get huge commercial success .

hirani movies have ample doses of misogyny, crass dialogues, item numbers , mockery of the most sensitive issues and a star studded commercial affair..Indian audience are truly fools if they believe Hirani “veiled “ crap as “class “

Basu - 8 films - 3 flops, 1 disaster, 2 semi hits - 2 Super Hits - one of which made just 15cr. Only Barfi came near 100cr.

Ghosh - 6 films - 2 hits, 2 flops, 2 disasters - Badla biggest hit with 87cr Aren't all his films remakes?
