Does the cult of superstardom promote mediocrity?

As Indian audience, we have become habituated with mediocrity so much, that even an average performance is celebrated with much fervor. People don't watch movies with an unbiased opinion. They have built different cults. You can't criticize any A-lister actor, because then you will be ridiculed and bullied by his or her die hard fans. It's like we are ready to worship anything and everything.

I can't think of a single superstar who is an excellent actor, like Konkona Sen Sharma or Nawazuddin Siddiqui or Rajkumar Rao.

Also, let me clarify that I am talking about superstars only. Stars like Shahid and Kangana and Vidya are great actors, but they are not "superstars".

Also, how do completely talentless actors like Salman and Katrina reach enormous levels of success? It's not even like Deepika, who reached super-stardom only after Cocktail and after she improved her acting skills.

Read those two posts separately and u will understand there's no contradiction.

I never said Deepika is a great actress but there is a connection between her acting skills and the time she achieved superstardom (from Cocktail onwards).

Whereas there is no connection between acting and superstardom of Salman and Katrina.

I am making 2 separate points here, not to be confuse with each other.

They might but thats cos indian audience prefers mediocrity too. For example, Varun's October being a flop and Judwaa 2 being a hit

maybe because October was boring af.. just becasue the movie is good dont mean everyone has to watch it.. there will be blood is one the best movie of the 2000s but not alot of people watched it.. nobody is gonna waste their hard earned money to get bored for 2 hours.. Judwaa might be a bad movie but it was entertaining

all those art movies should be released on streaming services

Agree that mediocrity is celebrated not just among the masses but the so called classes too

If a performer gets such sky-high praise for average performance how will the standards improve?

IMO supermodels, models turned actresses brought the acting standards down in BW
