While it is completely fine to talk about the unfairness of these award shows, it is NOT OK to not share the complete truth. I’ld have appreciated more if Mr. Shekhar Gupta would have told the complete truth regarding Hrithik’s case. Hrithik won awards on other award shows as well in 2007 but why is it that he had a problem with only Screen awards? Raakesh Roshan was not nominated despite giving a hugely accepted sci-fi superhero film Krrish which was quite path-breaking at that time. It’s not such a big deal if being his son he felt disappointed with the jury, who did not even consider Rakesh Roshan worthy of a nomination.
He only refused to take his own award but did NOT cancel his performance which would have actually become an issue at the last moment. It’s a little to much to make him sound like a bully for not attending an after award party just because he is an insider.
There is an article in IF itself regarding the nominees of 13th Annual Star Screen awards 2007. Can’t post the hyperlink being a newbie.
While HR's sentiments re: his father are for sure admirable, most other professions would not put up with that sort of behavior. Letting the peeps in charge know an hour before the event? That's telling. Done to send a message they will be embarrassed if they don't conform. If he felt strongly Krrish deserved the award which was deliberately withheld, he would have done an Aamir and simply boycotted all award shows ahead of time.
I understand BW functions that precise way, but public is calling for a change. I would suggest to decent humans in the industry like HR (he still comes across that way to me) that they try to read the room better. Not pander, mind you. Perhaps not treat the sector like family business or oligarchy.
In the end, the whole article is about lack of respect which exists in BW. I would've used a different word: professionalism. Meaning, when you're in a workplace, act like a professional. There, family equations (or groupism) shouldn't count just as they shouldn't count in a police station or a newsroom or an operating theater.
