This, with all due respect, is definitely not a good idea and cannot/should not be implemented. What about people like whistle blowers who post something on an Internet forum or bulletin board? Their identity needs to continue to be protected by the law. If you link someone's posts to their SSN/government ID, what is stopping any intolerant person, company, organization, government from coming after those who are dissenting, or victims of crime, domestic abuse not being followed by their abusers? This would go against the whole idea of right of free speech. It just sets a bad precedent.

There have to be some other fixes for this issue.

This concern is completely valid. I wasn't advocating that particular solution; was just thinking out loud to help with brainstorming. Naturally, it's a much more complex topic that needs a lot of time, thought and exchange of ideas.

Civil criticism is when ppl unfollow and ignore them as a stand

Not when u count and keep a check on how many followers they lost, or celebrate someone else’s downfall to this degree, or probe them to the point of breaking and revel in it as if it’s an achievement.
Even if Ppl don’t abuse, they do all of this which is equivalent to bullying, the very thing ppl are supposedly fighting against

They buy followers , any one can create ids online , who knows they themselves doing drama , diversion tactics n suppress d voices , instead of forcing on public n it's fine public rejected , they can accept gracefully n stop playing God n quit n move on .

If you don't call out the bad things happening in the industry, how is any change supposed to happen? Should everyone just stay silent and do the chalta hai attitude? And calling out the wrong things/raising their voice against it (politely of course) and ignoring their films is the civil criticism. Abusing should not be grouped with calling out the systematic unfairness of the industry. It's like people want everyone to shut up and just accept it.

No ones asking ppl to shut up if they have something legitimate to say

And their legitimacy is determined by the language they use, their source of evidence for the accusation they are making and their willingness to have an actual debate with the other party to explain themselves rather than participate in cancel culture

Yeah definitely, people should be civil above all instead of targeting specific people with vile words

I don't condone any death threats, rape threats, or criminal threats. This is harassment and bullying and there are laws against this. People are within their rights to go to court/police for this.

However, IMO it's apparent why the legal threats are happening now rather than before. It's not that the frequency of criminal threats has increased - it's just that there is much more genuine dissent and anger. The dissent (let's not combine with what some other low-life people are doing with the threats by hiding behind Sushant) is bothersome because they can't handle being called out and not having that many supporters defending them. The threat of legal action is, in reality, simply meant to stop the legitimate dissent so people can get scared/ emotional/feel bad, etc...who would want to be put in the same bucket as those making criminal threats anyways?

I think solutions you suggested aren't any actual solutions as this is what people already do when they receive online abuse and threats.

Ignoring/blocking isn't a solution because the abuse is verbal and you would already have been subjected to abuse before ignoring/blocking, so that doesn't solve anything. Even if you block, creating a new account hardly takes a minute, so no matter what, you can never truly block such messages.

The don't use social media solution you suggested is akin to "don't step outside the house at night/don't wear such clothes." By placing the onus on the victims and not the perpetrators, you are following the same problematic trope that is used against victims when they ask for change.

The point was, how organizations like Instagram or Twitter are saying they cannot help with such messages and will not take down such accounts no matter what. So the fight is institutional and the solutions need to be focused towards what we can do to help without hampering the freedom of the victims.

There's no way to end abuse/threats online, just as there's no way to completely end abuse/threats/crime in real life, and your suggestion of ending anonymity would have disastrous consequences that would lead to all kinds of human rights violations.

I've listed a few options available to deal with online abuse, you could also disable the comment section and carry on using instagram as usual, it is in this context where I said it's not equivalent to "don't step outside the house or...." because in real life, you don't get to disable abuses from your life. People don't have to use social media, but if they do, there are ways to stop the abuse.

Apart from that, they would need to create AI that would be able recognise when someone is writing abuse/threats which would then prevent them from posting, or a more easier way would be to put comments up for approval, so that only approved comments make it to the comment section, in the hope that the abusers would eventually get tired and stop.

Very well said!

Such tactics are used on numerous occasions to silence valid outrages! Have seen it on the forum itself where people are constantly shamed and mocked by grouping them with the said abusers - anything to silence the dissect. Subtle manipulation extends way beyond to other platforms and even in our real lives. Anything to tame the fire!

Many love their "chalta hain attitude, this is how it is, life is unfair so keep quiet and live it, this happens everywhere so shut up etc etc" - so many such excuses are used to divert the voice of reason.
