India is more obsessed with fair skin than anything else. India doesn't have the "white privilege" issue that is rampant in the US. So there's racism of one kind in the US, which isn't the same as the fair skin obsession in India.
For example, India would never have a problem with Plessy, who was 1/8th black but looked white and could have ridden the "white classified" train. But he was still considered "black" in the US in those times, and therefore not equal to others, and was asked to board the "classified black" train. So... NO, the so called "racism" in India is NOT the same as the racism in US that comes with a big baggage of slavery and black history.
