There are varying reports about this so not really clear if he was indeed out of work

That said, movies like sonchiriya do not work on BO.. they are at most critically acclaimed

Apparently he signed 10000 projects and had been rejecting projects... He was one of the busiest actors around.. And he is not here to clarify otherwise

What we know for sure

1. His last film made 100 crores

2. He got zero credit for it

3. He has only one release coming up

4. He was not currently shooting for anything

5. No project in this past 1.5 years since chichore had been announced with him

Whether this was the reason for his drastic action we will never know for sure.

This is quite amusing, SSR himself had said that if Sonchidiya fails 'they' would throw him out of bollywood yet people are asking was he out of work ? Funny, but not funny.

Would he had said his career would be over if one film fails if he had multiple films in his hand ?

He was supposed to do this film, that film but interestingly there were no articles about these films before his demise barring the Rumi Jaffery one. After a huge 150cr hit like Chhichhore, he was doing a b grade director Rumi Jaffery's film ...none find it weird ?

True. And the other films that jain quoted were his own that even kangana didn't know of and rensil's. Rensil hasnt made any movie even in his regional industry for anyone to consider him as a big film maker. Last I heard amitabh pulled out of his movie more than a year back. No news of anything else.

And even if he had these 3 movies like you said is that the calibre of movies that anyone with a big hit normally gets? Point to be noted is not even rensil claimed sushant was part of his movie.

When you're posting speculations, please atleast put a trigger warning for people who read the forum posts. There might be many who are going through the same mental condition and distress right now and the last thing they would want to read is speculations that would be triggering for them. Let's please be sensitive in atleast wording our thoughts better!

(speaking in general)

One can be successful (which he was) and still be depressed. Depression doesn’t look for just unsuccessful, struggling, jobless people to affect. So no, he probably was not out of work. But then it was never about him being “out of work” anyway, was it? There’s a lot more to it than just that. Sure, it’s not Bollywood’s “duty” to hep him succeed, but they sure made it their “duty” and did everything in their power to make it look like he wasn’t succeeding when in fact, he was. All the negative press. The smear campaign. It’s all so obvious now, but it’s also too late :( like someone said above, his hard work and hits would get ignored but if one of the nepo Bachhas so much as sneezed, they’d be praised to the skies. If he had one flop- write him off. If one of them had a flop- they’d be handed an even better script, given chances after chances, until they succeed.

I might not be able to explain it but another member, Cobbler, has explained it well, it’s worth reading it: https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/153492308.

If a film is a flop, it’s “Sushant’s flop”, but if that same film emerges a hit- Sushant has nothing to do with it. One flop by him and they crucified him, but nothing to say about his very many hits. Nothing. Nada. Whereas even the mediocrity of a nepo kid is celebrated. Heck, even his last film, which was a hit, no credit to him. And despite this big hit, no films lined up for him like they would have been if it was one of the mediocre but nepo actor. That’s how things works here.

Sushant had constant negative press surrounding him- horrible blinds, articles and what not. And for what reason?? Read this by LiveEatLove- https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/post/153474451

So I’m sorry for not thanking Bollywood for being ‘kind enough’ for giving Sushant work, when I can see all of this.

Obviously, I’m not saying it was Bollywood that led to Sushant’s suicide. But all this most likely contributed to his depression. But it’s never just one thing, perhaps there was a lot going on in other aspects of his life too, and now that he’s gone, we’ll never know why He did what he did. But I simply cannot ignore the treatment dished out by the powerful people of Bollywood towards an outsider. And I’m glad many others are raising their voice against this unfairness. Because I’m sure Sushant isn’t the first or the last person to have been faced with this treatment, and something needs to change so that things are better for the future Sushants.

This is something even I don't understand. He was Mukesh close friend, had good relationshios with Sajid Nadiadwala, his directors had nothing but good things to say about him. There is no way he wouldn't get some good offers. His sudden distancing from his old friends after he met Reha always bothered me.

As per Rumi's MM interview, I think Sushant himself was not interested in signing any other films but he had definitely gotten offers for work.

Following the success of the Nitesh Tiwari-directed campus drama Chhichhore, a number of other producers and directors were looking forward to collaborating with Sushant.

“The industry knew that I was working with Sushant and two big producers sought my help to get in touch with him. I spoke to Sushant, but he wasn’t too keen on meeting them. His response was simple, ‘Sir, picture hi nahin karni hai abhi too milkar kya karoonga. Jab agli picture commit karni hogi, tab mil loonga.’”

(I can't post links but you can find this interview on Mumbai Mirror)
