When they see black people, they will act as if they just saw an alien and want nothing to do with that person. You will notice the vast difference in how they treat a white person vs a black person. They will literally go out of their way to impress and be kind a white person but want nothing to do with a black persons. Sorry this is my experience.

Not only this, even toward their own race. They will treat lower class workers, many servants as if they are the mud on the ground. And darker skinned people? That’s a whole nother story. Obvi this does not apply to every Indian! I am indian myself and very proud. This is just what I observe.

Obv this applies to indian Americans as well especially those who immigrated here long ago and still have a backward mindset.

Tons of Black people in the University where I studied. In all major universities of India. They would have a very different story to tell I guess.

Bold: I think you mean EAST Asians. Because Indians are South Asians themselves. 🤔

Oh yes, I meant the East Indians and also people from Japan, China etc.

Yes, of course it's not that damaging most of the time because we are in our limits. But even for small discrimination, I am sure it hurts them. Like it hurts us, when we are at the receiving end of White Supremacy.

You have no data but still claim that Indians are MORE racist than places where Blacks are murdered. Yeah, makes a ton of sense.

I was speaking of one particular metric: murders due to racism. I'm saying we do not have enough data to either confirm or deny how we are doing on that parameter. However, our racism clearly comes through in other forms, like this survey reveals the kind of attitudes we have towards people of other races.

Of course you may deny it and keep believing that we are not highly racist. I don't have any issues with your opinion.

And what are the parameters employed in this "survey" that says that Indians are more racist than Americans or Europeans, especially since there is so little opportunity for those prejudices to manifest themselves?

Do tell me. I'm really interested to know what evidence proves beyond all doubt that Indians are MORE racist than Whites.

If you read the survey question, you will find your answer.

"What kind of people I would not want as a neighbour"

Ans: People of a different race.

Firstly, there is no concept of 'race' in India as far as intra-Indian social divides are concerned. People here think advertising for a fair-skinned bride is racism. That too, ONLY the urban educated middle and upper classes have a real idea of what 'race' means in the international context. So how come '40%' people answered "I don't want people of another race to be my neighbour" when the idea of race itself isn't that clear to most Indians in their day-to-day lives?

Also lots of racist whites conceal their racism by giving race-positive answers in such surveys. Because nobody wants to be an outcast in society.

Given the above facts, this study seems highly inadequate and/or errant. Or most likely fraudulent.

You are right. NRIs will freak out if their son or daughter comes home with black gf/bf. Main reason would be that we Indians are fair skin obsessed people and other reason would be perception. They have the idea that blacks are more involved in crimes and are druggies.

It’s lack of knowledge also. We also have to consider generation. Some NRIs settled in USA are still stuck in the year they came in. They just have lived in well all their life, confined to certain beliefs and aren’t likely to change. I can tell you ignorant they may be, but aren’t vicious or harmful.

Like I have seen my cousins residing here (born and brought up) changing their parents perception. We try and explain and uncle-aunts see our pov too. We make fun of them too for their ways. But at the end I have seen them accepting and Trying to be evolving.

I feel lot of new gen kids are ready to call names and brand others without once trying to understand where they come from. Too impatient to try to see the other side. There’s no way you are changing anyone’s view or bringing a change in perception, by being downright abusive.

Also, I am not trying to denounce what you are saying. I am just trying to reason out.

that question could be in Indian scenario as "I don't want people of another religion ( *you-know-which 😉*) to be my neighbour" .. like 40% seems pretty good for the number of the people who would say YES! to that question 😆
