and before someone jumps on me and says that I am glorifying Hindi/Urdu....no I am not...I do not care for any language....not even my mother tongue Hindi...all I am saying is that the TM is right....There are no two ways of pronouncing words in Hindi/Urdu...that pronunciation doesn't matter in day to day life..I agree with that....as long as you understand what the other person is saying...who cares....but when a language is used for the art of writing lyrics or singing...the pronunciation should be correct....art and day to day life are different...the former needs perfection...the latter...well all of us are imperfect...so who cares..as long as u get the meaning..😆

And i disagree ..

There are not only two but multiple ways to pronounce a word .. Depends which version of Hindi you are basing it on .. There is Hyderabadi Hindi , there is Urdu Hindi , there is Sanskrit Hindi and then there is widely used spoken Hindi .. Take a pick and stick to it but dont go around telling people your version/ understanding is better / purer than others coz that aint true .. As long as things are communicated effectively and seamlessly, that is all that matters .. Period !

Nope....in Hindi....u cannot pronounce it in a different way than what is written....For example....Shiv and Siv may mean the same thing....but the pronunciation will be different...There is no need to be offended......If you pronounce Shiv as Siv....ur pronunciation is wrong....and as long as we are speaking generally and I get what u are saying, I don't care....but a Hindi teacher teaching the kids that Shiv can be pronounced as Siv is WRONG...or if a singer is singing a Bhajan where the lyrics say Shiv but he is singing Siv is also wrong....that is the only point I am trying to make....In Hindi you have only one way to pronounce a word...and there are no two ways about it...😆

Most of the greats have taken the effort to pronounce these words accurately. Latha ji pronounces them impeccably as well. I'm pretty sure these sounds were alien to them in their mother tongues. But they must have put in effort to acquire mastery. Something we should appreciate. 👏

For commoners like us specially those of us who speaks Hindi as first language it's hard to differentiate it. It really takes an effort for those singers I must say, they are not just pretty voice. They have t get grip on other Aspects too . Yes we should appreciate them more for it 👍🏼

Again .. There are not only two but multiple ways about it .. As for Hindi teachers , they have to stick to the standardized and most accepted ways of pronounciation and even there if the Hindi teacher belongs to the same region where words are pronounced differently , chances are the regional version of words will be taught in the class .. If a region in specific pronounces "Shiv" as "Siv" , then it is "Siv" for them and that doesn't make it wrong .. Thats just how it is .. As for taking offence , i think you got that one wrong as well .. it is the "purists" that are taking offense here .. well , purists can go take a hike .. 😆

English doesn't have a letter for ख़ which comes from the Arabic خ

So I can't write it. But its Khushboo (as sung by Udit Narayan) vs Khushboo (as sung by Jagjit Singh) in the 2 videos linked in this thread.

You may not notice the difference because you may not differentiate between ख and ख़ and that's perfectly alright! 😊

The only contribution I can give to this post is the butchering of the Farsi word ‘namidoonam’.

I love this song and I suppose it was sung as ‘‘nameedanam’ because it rhymed better with Janam. I don’t think they mispronounced this but rather did it on purpose for the sake of rhyming (sounding better) 😆
