Exhibitors Up In Arms Against Gulabo Sitabo’s Premiere On Amazon Prime Video

Apparently Amazon Prime Video has bought exclusive premiere rights of this Bachchan-Khurrana squabbler’s saga at a whopping Rs 30 crores. The official announcements are likely to be made later this week.

While director Sircar is more than happy to facilitate a quick release of his Corona-stuck project we gather from sources close to Mr Bachchan that he and his co-star Khurrana are none too pleased with the swift deal that the producers of Gulabo Sitabo have cut with Amazon.

Says the source, “Both Bachchan Saab and Khurrana are keen to wait until the situation normalizes. But the producers have gone ahead and closed the deal with Amazon.”

And it’s not just the film’s principal actors who are up in arms against the digital release of a biggie like Gulabo Sitabo.

Multiplex chains are now threatening to take action against producers going on OTT.

A prominent multiplex personnel on condition of anonymity says, “We are now formulating our own defence strategy against this short-termed and myopic benefit move by some producers. If they can’t see they are killing the theatre business by taking the digital route then we will also ensure that the ones taking that route are boycotted from future release outlets in our theatres.”

What's so wrong if the producers are willing to release their small budget movies on OTT platform. If they are getting a good price then what's the harm. Are ppl that daft to not understand that cinema is the last thing ppl have in their mind in the current situation. Atleast in 2020.

Even after the situation normalizes , ppl won't risk themselves just for a damn movie. Small budget movies to koi dekhne jayga BHI Nahi.

Then Big B and Ayushmaan should step in, pay from their own pocket so that the delay doesn't cause more loss to the producers and become co-producers. And if they can't do that, they should just be happy that the film is atleast releasing. Waise bhi Gulabo Sitabo kaunsa Sooryavanshi hai ki people will wait for a year to go watch it in theatres.

Did they sold it for 30cr? That’s really low.

Let’s be honest shoojit sircar movies survive only on WOM his audience mostly are the ones who also use the OTT platforms. Doubt cinemas will manage in current time to earn a lot out of such small movies. In other countries the plan about opening cinema halls are going on. it’s ridiculous and difficult to manage. Not many people are allowed to be in the cinemahall or lobby. at least two seats needs to be free and the row behind and front should be empty.

Exhibitors are protesting that they will decide what producers should do with their movies?😆

Unless they had already bought the rights to distribute the movie, they have no right to raise a complaint or create a ruckus over this.

Producers can release it wherever they want. At least for the next 6 months, no one is going to visit a theatre.
