So...I just finished watching Padman on Netflix. I have mixed opinions on it. Actually, it is R. Balki's weakest movie. Not particularly enjoyable or entertaining. Too preachy at times and lacks a consistent tone.
But it’s an engrossing and important subject – which was raised by a man who challenged patriarchal taboos with a candour and determination that many men all over the progressive world might shrink from even now. That's what makes the movie special, IMO. There is absolutely no doubt that the subject and the intention of the film is applause-worthy. In India, the shame' associated with that time of the month' is still so strong and so pervasive that anything that brings out into the open is cause to cheer, and a film starring a big star is sometimes the best way to break age-old taboos.
So...I am kind of conflicted, because the movie does have its heart in the right place but I feel the execution went wrong. It didn't strike a chord with me.
