Every movie now has remakes of songs. How did the trend being in movies?

I remember in 2006 in Don they remade Yeh Mera Dil and Khaike Paan but it never really worked or catch on.

When did this come back?
Up until recently movies used to have actual original sound track. Remember Ashiqui 2? All original songs. Wtf happened?

BW has been copying and remaking songs since beginning of time. Remember hit pop songs like Kaanta laga, chadati Jawani, bin tere sanam, tu tu hai wohi. We have been doing it all along but it was limited to pop songs and not into films.

Pritam started to pick songs down south and started remaking it. Honey Singh came up with dheere dheere we which was huge hit, that time Tseries realized we can cash on remix and remakes and cut to today they have ruined all their good songs.

There have always been remixes. But it started originally from these indipop albums. After that Don had 2 remakes which flopped. T Series tried it once with Dhak Dhak and Aye Mere Humsafar...again it didn't do well.

The minute original music started degrading, T Series started with remixes...ofc those became famous coz the audience wanted good songs, irrespective of whether they were originals or remixes.

Then it went on to become the trend it is today.

Lazy and callous attitude, easy way out, cheaper and easier. Sure shot eye catcher.

Item numbers stopped by around 2016 or so and that's when the remake factory started churning

Now that I think about it, even Ayushman’s many songs are remakes, like morni banke. And Karthik’s entire career. the whole album of Sony Ki Titu was remakes.

The oldest remake in movies I can think of after don hmm... har kisiki nahi milta from some Akshay film.
