Malang Continues To Hold Well On Tuesday

Malang continues to hold well as it collected 3.75 crore nett on Tuesday. the drop is under 10% on Tuesday an the film is still comfortably less than 50% from the first day. This takes the film to 31.75 crore nett and if Wednesday can show a similar trend then this film can surprise.

The holds are a bit surprising on Monday and Tuesday as it would have been expected to drop more after its weekend trend especially the minimal growth on Sunday. Also on top its a genre that finds it hard to survive without a good weekend.

The film will face a test on Wednesday as there is a tendency for films to have noticeable drops on the first Wednesday but if this film can avoid it then it could emerge a successful film. A HIT film is probably out of the equation but good run from here can make it a success.

Shikara continued its downtrend with collections down 10-15% and even those are very minimal collections. The film has been outright rejected by the paying public.

Malang is Decent On Wednesday

Malang continued its decent weekday run as it collected 3.25 crore nett on Wednesday which takes the total collections of the film to 35 crore nett and it should be a 38 crore nett apprx for the week. The drop on Wednesday is more than Tuesday but Wednesday can be a killer and Malang has managed to get through it.

Its going to be about where the film lands on its second Friday and with Valentines Day to support it should not drop much from Thursday depending on the screen count. The film has a little bit of work to do in the second weekend to cover the costs which are high for this cast but it is very much possible with a double digit second weekend.

The film was written off on day one but has held up pretty well for a film that was labelled a flop on day one. Shikara meanwhile continues with dull collections and will be out of theaters in week two.

It seems to be heading toward an AVERAGE status so technically would be a "success" but still has some distance to go to get the status. Disha pulling through like a champ.

Love Aaj Kal First Day - Malang Second Friday

Love Aaj Kal has collected well on day on with 12 crore nett thanks to Valentines Day which works like a holiday at many places. If we take out the Valentines Day factor then the opening is probably around 8.50 crore nett which is not too good.

The trailer was not that good and on top the music did not work as it should for a love story so from that point of view its good number but being Valentines Day and the recovery needed at a theatrical level its probably not good enough as the film is not going to gain on Saturday and maybe not even on Sunday.

The director also has a record that most of his films dont last at the box office so the start becomes even more important. Only Jab We Met managed to sustain but it was a small film with a limited audience. The other hit film which was the original Love Aaj Kal took a good opening due to superhit music but most of the audience could not connect and it did not do much after the first week. If this 12 crore nett had come on a normal day then it would be a different story altogether while now its about hanging at the sam level on Saturday which would mean around 40% growth for the film in real value.

Malang has had a fair hold collecting 2.25 crore nett which will now ensure a 50 crore nett plus total which is good for a film in which Aditya Roy Kapoor is the lead but there is some work still do for recovery and AVERAGE Status. The hold could have better considering as 50 lakh more would have put the film in a good position but it lost multiplex screens to Love Aaj Kal.
