Malang And Shikara First Day Business

Malang collected 6.50 crore nett on day one which is a decent collection for the face value of the film but the collection of the film is lower than a Marjaawan which had far lower costs than this film. The film should have opened a little better due to genre but face value o main lead comes in the way of that.

The issue will be big growth due to the genre and its unlikely that the film can go up 40-50% on Saturday though there should be growth as every film tends to grow on Saturday and the mass collections are not that high here that they will stop growth. The target for the film will be double digits on Sunday which it will have to do to stay in the race and a chance to sustain on Monday. The business of the film is not going to be strong at metros so its about the mass belts collecting good on Sunday.

The mass belts could have been better on Friday. Gujarat / Saurashtra and Maharashtra are decent but UP and the Central India markets could have scored better.

Shikara collected 1 crore nett on its first day which is actually not that bad for a film like this of no face value but the collections are just from the three big chains mainly and it remains to be seen how the film grows over the weekend.

Comparing Fitoor with Malang openings.

Does it reflect on Disha’s hold on youngsters over Katrina’s?

just saw the movie ..This one could have been much better .I was fairly enjoying the ride until the end that throws unnecessary twist to dilute the impact .The climax feels utterly unconvincing and defeats the entire purpose of revenge ...The chemistry between Aditya and Disha is hot and sets the temperature soaring .Kunal khemmu steals the show with his act .Anil Kapoor is bit over the top ..The film has been mounted lavishly ...an average watch!

Malang - movie review

Walked in for a typical Mohit Suri movie and personally, wasn't disappointed... Suri is known for his somber themed movies with memorable visuals and songs (albeit, most of them were unofficial remakes but whatever)... N all his signature elements are strewn amply in this familiar narrative...

Movie primarily focuses on a an ex-convict on a killing rampage and the police trying to halt him, that happens on a Christmas eve, constantly interjected with flashbacks of the major players in the story... Though the first half flashback sequences glorify the hippie lifestyle a lot, its course-corrected soon after the 2nd half begins... Story appeared predictable at most junctures but was made up for with great visuals, music and performances... The tail end surprise, joining all dots neatly, was instrumental in ending an otherwise routine revenge drama on a high...

Coming to the performances, like all recent mohit suri movies, the supporting cast outshone the lead... Aditya Roy kapoor and Disha patani look gorgeous and toned onscreen and play their one dimensional protagonists passably... It was a treat to watch Kunal Khemu on screen after a long time and he easily stole every scene he was in and showcased an array of emotions in the minimal scenes that he was given, being a glaring contrast to the wooden performance by Aditya Roy Kapoor... Anil Kapoor was able to chew the scenes he was in and played his unhinged vigilante cop role with panache... Coincidentally, Anil Kapoor's Inspector Anjaney Agashey was shockingly similar in numerous aspects and backstory to Rajnikanth's Commissioner Adithya Arunachalam in the recently released 'Darbar'...

Overall, an enjoyable old school mohit suri movie and a better one among his recent...

Monday Update: Malang Fair Hold - Shikara Crashes

Malang had a fair hold as it dropped in the 40% range to collect 3.75-4 crore nett. Its a faie hold though it has to continue to hold well through the week. The drop in mass markets is around 30-35% though the film did not do well in these belts over the weekend.

This takes the business of the film to around 29 crore nett and it should be a 38-39 crore nett week for the film which is a decent number if we go by the cast but going by costs the film needed a little more. The film is depending over the next 5 or six days as it needs to get over that 60 crore nett mark for a fair result. its tough but this Monday number gives the film a chance.

The other release Shikara crashed on Monday with collections in the 40-50 lakh nett range. the film has dropped more than 50% despite being one of those small films depending on word of mouth. The Monday number means the word of mouth is not there and it has been rejected. Even if the final Monday gets a a little over 50 lk it will not make a difference as the film needed to collect more than day one and that is not happening for sure
