This probably refers to chingezi rule that mughals followed according to which the most eligible pronce becomes the next ruler and not the eldest according to this rule both dara and aurangazeb had equal right on throne and so did their brothers murad and shah shuja . I am glad kjo is including this historical aspect never expected this from him

Aurangazeb won because he was a military genius and much more shrewd than his other brothers and specially dara who was the weakest brother when it came to wars as his father loved him wah too much to send him to wars which indirectly led to his death. Another reason being shah jahan s love made dara overconfident and arrogant a trait not liked by court officials whose support was necessary for choosing the next ruler Aurangzeb won on both these fronts

Dara was a good man his thoughts about unity of all the religion was nice but only if he had also paid attention to military training and worked his arron
