Why would he do Padmavati type movies now when his own brand of movies have been making almost 200cr business?

Also look at the 3 top grossers of 2019 : war, Kabir Singh and URI ( the women in these films can be replaced with any woman and still the films would run huge) even tho Kabir Singh was a love story but I maintain my stance

I’m not saying women are irrelevant. Even actresses shouldn’t run after big actors or directors. Just find some nice story in good budget.

Agree with most of it except the last bit about KS and Uri. Replace the male leads with any actors, the movies would've done just as well for other factors. Neither was a star vehicle.

Problem with female led movies is that they tend to be issue movies and not done in an entertaining way. Yes, something like acid attack is not meant to be entertaining, but mango people are not going to spend hard earned cash on a 3 hour lecture. Make something like Aayushman does with a female lead, and it has chances of success. Thing is, actresses tend to be super image conscious. They don't like making themselves look silly or ridiculous. If they venture outside flowerpot roles, it is for something highbrow and usually boring. I mean, ELKDTAL was a nice enough movie, but it failed to reach masses. I'm not saying make light of the plight of LGBTQ, but wait and see how Shubh Mangal Zyada Savdaan handles it. I bet there will be lots of fun and humor, and it will still manage to make its point.

The thing is the kind of movie he does the whole story revolves around him and his unconventional problem. The heroine is just there which A list actress would be willing to do that?

I get your point, but not all A-list actresses are averse to playing flowerpot roles. For e.g. --Katrina and Shraddha, they are both known for these kind of roles.

but they charge 10 times more than what a nushrat or bhumi will charge. Katrina to khair will charge more than Aayushman.

Most of his films were signed at the time he was an average success... Uss time pe no A lister would work with him and neither was he approached for the big budget films...

Ab woh saari films 1-1.5 years mein superhit hogayi.... Now i think most people will be happy to work with him ... Lets see what he signs after a year

It’s obviously costing...

Also I agree with another response I think it would be great if we break the star culture and just have good movies overall...

Alia gets cast with a Vicky Kaushal becos the movie can only budget for one star’s fees

Dp gets cast with a Vikrant Massey becos the movie can only budget for one stars fees

the minute we have Ayushman becoming big charging more money, and we want him with A list actresses the only movies we will see them in is kalank and Bhansali movies

We can forget about content driven movies

Ditto. Nowadays, its the way a script and movie is written and directed onscreen over who is the 'star' or 'hero'. The reason BW female centric films don't connect with me is because they are way too "preachy" about "naari shakti zindabaad".

Not true. If you watch Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi had an equally important role. In Vicly Donor, Yami had a pretty solid role. In Badhaai Ho, the story didn't revolve around him but Neena Gupta and Surekha Sikhri even won a National Award for Supporting Actress. Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan, Bhumi had a meaty role. In Andhadhun, Tabu had an equally important role. So no, the females in his films are not flowerpots. They have good roles.
