What does Dabangg 3's failure prove?

Can someone define mindless entertainment for me? Even Hera Pheri is mindless entertainment. Or a Welcome. And many other comedy films that worked.

It's not their mindlessness that is the focus. It is whether or not it delivers entertainment.

Sort of like those Dhinchak Pooja's music videos which went viral. It's not because she was singing well. It's because she was singing so badly that it was entertaining. Many very good singers on Youtube don't have more than a few hundred or thousand views. But Dhinchak Pooja has millions.

So mindless or not so mindless, what works in someone's favour is novelty. Dabangg part 1 had that novelty factor - the newness, freshness, originality, which parts 2 and 3 lacked - they became too familiar, formulaic and therefore, banal - and that's why they failed.
