It's not horror , though it have few extreme graphic violence for rookies.

It's more study of low class and rich class difference , and is entertaining , also helps that director has good record of long list of acclaimed movies , is somewhat popular in Hollywood.

Well academy being stupid and picking cliche films is pretty much known as this point.

It's a story about class conflict and economic desperation told in a very entertaining and creative manner with vintage Bong humour.

Did people really expect Gully Boy to get a nomination ? The movie isn't up to par with the other contestants. It has no real subject or theme.

Zoya claims it's about Indian Hip-Hop but it's not really as one doesn't get a picture of the Indian Hip-Hop scene through the movie.

8-miles didn't get an oscar nomination so why should GB get one ?

I hope next time will give their chance to other industries than Bollywood because maybe then they'll get to the shortlist.

That's too bad, but it's not unexpected. As others have mentioned, its similarity to 8 Mile probably doomed it to failure in the Oscar race.

8 miles has original rappers rapping. The king of rap. You expect them to nominate a movie in which people are not actually rapping? Lol
