"I Don't Fear The Public"
Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Tuesday, January 09, 2007]

I don't fear the Public, I am the Public…This is one of the catch-lines hogging attention in the newspaper advertisements of Mani Rathnam's 'Guru'. The main catchline – Villager, Visionary, Winner….Continues to be the mainstay…This has to be said that in its final stage of Herculean Publicity, 'Guru' is definitely evoking curiosity that goes beyond mere entertainment.

It's being said that this is Abhishek Bachchan's best work. And if the promos are any testimony then Bachchan Junior surely seems to be on top. In his young avatar flirting with Mayya Mayya oomph doll Mallika Sherawat or singing Aishwarya duets with mountain backdrops, Abhi looks hot. But it's his transformation into the industrialist, the leader phase that's startling. His body language when he screams: "Banna chahte ho is desh ki sabse badi company" is spellbinding. And the paralytic moments with his mouth clenched is stunning to say the least.

Some films are beyond Box Office. 'Guru' seems to be one of them. Mani Rathnam's 'Yuva' earned Abhishek loads of Best Supporting Actor awards….Will 'Guru' take him beyond everything else. Wait for January 12th….The verdict will be out soon.

OMG,Guru is being relentlessly promoted...I see Ash,Abhishek,Mithun Chakraborthy and Mani on ALL news channels promoting the film, the promos are aired on all channels every 10 minutes, and every daily has half a page devoted for the wallpaper/poster of Guru...Wonder whether all all this publicity will come to fruition??....Guru is touted to be the pride of Abhi's oeuvre, and they're leaving no stone unturned in the publicity...AB Sr and Abhi walked all the way from their house to the Siddhi Vinayak temple at the unearthly hours to pray....And why not😛,Guru's success would catapult Abhi into the top league, and its failure would be very hard to get over(God forbid)...

One bizzare rumour was that Vidya is one of the twins of Guru(Abhi) and Sujata(Ash)...Not THAT would be REALLY bizzare,Ash playing a mom to Vidya 😕 😆 😕

Here's the review of someone who watched the film....
************************************************************ ****

OK, so I just saw Mani Ratham's GURU in a special screening at New York's Wallace Theatres. Before I take a shower and eat dinner, I have one thing to share: GURU IS A GOOD FILM. Due to certain restrictions, I cannot go over the film. But what I can say is Junior B has arrived. If you thought Jr. Roshan was all that in Krissh, Junior B's acting in GURU is far better fetched. GURU is a role of a lifetime. Only few actors in Bollywood (Amitabh in Main Azad Hoon, Ajay Devgan in Bhagat Singh and Manoj Kumar in his previous classics) have essayed a histronic role with perfection by themselves. Add Junior B to that collection. Not too say that there are some flaws in GURU, the film is by far is entertaining. Junior B steals the show from start to finish. His introudution and the film's climax will strike a chord.

GURU is the first most entertaining film in 2007. Watch it to appreciate a huge star in the making. This should be Junior B's ground-breaking venture.

**** out of *****

****** **************************************************

ABout MAni snubbing Big B,I REALLY dont think Mani's intentions were to snub the Bachchans.....There might be some other reason behind their not attending the screening(Maybe coz they had wake up before 3:00 am the next day to walk to Siddhi Vinayak).... 😕

Dont forget....Hrithik's Jodha Akbar too is releasing in 2007😛...and if JA does commercially better than Guru, all award committes would give the awards to Hrithik, notwithstanding whether his performance was better than Abhishek's..And IF by any chance Sanjay Bhansali's Saawariya ends up being the biggest grosser, then that movie will win all awards...🤢..Whenever SLB makes any movie,he wins all awards

Abhi has good competition from his own dad Big B too...If Big B gives a stellar performance in Sholay/Eklavya,than he'd be in the race too...

Ps...DAMN,Had only Hrithik done Abhi's role in Yuva,Guru might have landed on his plate..Imagine,After Krrish and Dhoom 2,if only Hrithik had a Guru and Jodha Akbar😃⭐️

Shocking absence

Says the source, "Amitji and Jayaji weren't there. They weren't invited. All of us were shocked by their absence. It's okay to say that the preview was only for the cast and crew. Ash, Abhishek, Vidya and the others were genuinely required, but director Shaad Ali (Bunty Aur Babli) was also there.

Shaad and Mani go back a long way as he assisted Mani, remade his Alai Payuthe as Saathiya and also helped him with Guru. By similar logic, Abhishek's parents too deserved to be there, for no other reason except that they are who they are and deserve to see their son's film."

I wonder why...I mean Big B n Jayaji are Abhi's parents and wouldnt they love to see their son in such a challenging role...I mean thats so sad...😭

well the chances of JA succeding commercially is slim coz historicals never work! I'm sure it'll be critically acclaimed coz Ashu makes good movies.

I so agree with u....if only Duggu had done Yuva, then he would've landed up with Guru! I so want Hrithik to do a Mani Ratnam film.....most of the other directors, dont see beyond hrithik's looks n his dancing. Mani will reall be able to bring out the best in Hrithik....come on, he's the man who proved to teh world tht ABhi could act!
