You have to do slightly more than just APPEAR in a couple of successful films to claim the year to be yours. If Shraddz had even a minor hit with a good performance in a small film, then she'd have a very strong case but sadly she didn't.
Alia on the other hand, even with Kalank being a disaster will end the year as Numero Uno. Gully Boy was a big hit and she is topping most lists for best performance in it. Even in Kalank she was better than Shraddha in all her last few films.
And if we talk about their general popularity / profile then Alia is still far ahead of the competition.
Kriti Sanon still has a release I believe before the year closes and I'd argue she's had as strong a year as Shrad if not stronger.
Actually actresses now days can claim a year if they get both BO success and critical acclaim in multiple films. Priyanka Chopra did this during fashion/dostana, and she was never a number 1. Alia bhatt did this as well in 2016, deepika in 2013. After a year of massive success, all of them continued with better careers/films. So a good year can really do wonders for an actress. that's all it takes.
Personally, I don't think Shraddha has achieved that this year, although she has been the most successful BO wise..but thats it. That's why Alia will still be ahead even with one good film. She is at a position where her past work has won the audience over and she has maintained a good reputation despite giving a flop or two.
Also to add kriti just had a flop film, so it cant be her year either. An actress who is not at top needs to have a year that is absolutely mind blowing, basically.
