Apart from Vidya and Kangana who are obvious choices, whom do you think has the capability to carry a female-oriented role on their shoulders? i feel Deepika, Kareena, Alia, Priyanka, Anushka, Sonakshi and Parineeti are all capable of doing female-oriented roles. They have the talent and charisma. I would add Taapsee too, but she is inconsistent. Rest, a big no-no. They would only end up falling flat on their faces. I am adding the combination of stardom and acting here, and the names I mentioned I feel have that combination. Radhika Apte, Konkona Sharma etc. are brilliant but not stars.

PS- Vidya is still the best bet, but she won't fit into glamorous roles.

Everyone, just need a role and hardwork, sometimes even without hard work, of luck favors.

When poor actresses like Katrina(MBKD) and Shraddha(Aashiqui2) can gain audience with female roles, hogging the limelight, anyone can. It is all about, how much the makers and the actors, alongside the luck factor plays into.

Rani and Tabu are in a different league altogether.

Shraddha was not the main factor in Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapur had a stronger role. But that movie I feel worked because of songs, which were beautiful, as it was a musical.

Anyone who is given the right film, director, and opportunity. Now days, stardom doesnt really apply in giving a good performance that is appreciated. An Alia or Anushka will definitely bring in an audience just based on their names being well known. But if someone like Rhadika Apte is given something like a Raazi type film, and she was backed up by dharma..I feel she would be able to carry it off and people would come to watch her.

I don't agree. I feel you need a basic amount of stardom to pull in the audiences for a female-oriented role. Radhika Apte in Raazi would have won a National Award maybe but the film wouldn't have been such a big hit. Look at Phobia, Parched etc. They sank without a trace. I agree the genre of the movie matters, but so does the star.

ARK always get overrated in regards to A2, had this debate several times.

Shraddha's Arohi become a rage, girls keeping thier fb names Arohi, launde lapade wanting to.marry her and so on.

Where did A2 took ARK?? Nowhere, Shraddha went on to give hits after hits.

yes, I understand what you are saying. What I meant to say is that any actress with a good role and backing can carry off a female oriented role not considering box office and all that.

Thats why I mentioned that if rhadika had the backing say an alia has, then she would be able to generate that sort of buzz. A well known or more popular actress, or stars as you call them will obviously generate more buzz regarding a solo project. to answer your question, I think all the actresses you mentioned would be able to pull it off.

I think it's more on how a character is written and director's vision than the actress itself. I'm not saying that every actress can pull off a role like Vidya did in the dirty picture or Priyanka in Barfi or Kangna in Queen. What I'm saying is if you give a talented actor a role poorly written, how much ever the big star she would be, it still won't work. Content matters.
