Such characters are only attractive on screen. I have met numerous Geets in my life and believe me all of them were equally annoying.

It was a manic pixie girl trope done right, specially when they reversed Aditya n geeet' character in the second half. Another good thing she faced consequences of her doing before thinking tendency. Which very few films show. Also I think Kareena did it adorably, any other actress could HV made her annoying.

I think she is lovable also bcz Aditya was there to balance her out,and she was not really Ott in a I have no flaw way,she was very flawed immature n changed in second half.

Also she had very quotable dialouges. That plays a huge part. Example-mean girls r so popular due to the quotability

I agree with most of the comments. Both Geet and Kareena are highly overrated BUT the combination of the two, plus the dialogues (which were brilliant) and contrast with Shahid’s character worked wonderfully. I can’t stand Kareena’s acting but in JWM she gave full justice to her character (which is IMO the closest to her real personality). Same for Shahid, he excels at the more nerdy, quiet and complex characters (rather than the bold, over confident macho) as this is how is really like as an individual. His acting was organic and felt real/natural. Had Kareena been paired with Ranveer or Varun, the film would have not been as good as their energy would have been OTT. Same with Vivah; super cliche movie but what worked is he combo Shahid/Amrita.

Okay, after seeing so many replies I'm starting to understand why Geet can be an iconic character. I think I'm personally prejudiced because I don't like such girls in real life. So didn't like it in the movie either. Plus, Never really liked Kareena. She always does overacting and with Geet it seemed she has got a license for that.

I didn't say Geet was "without" character depth. But there "wasn't much" of it. The whole movie was from Aditya's POV. It was kinda his story, and he got a much better character progression. As for comparing Geet with Gul Khan heroines, I'll say Gul's heroines have got better character development than Geet in their shows, although that's because of much more scree time. And as someone pointed out, Geet wasn't the first bubbly heroine either.

It's very difficult to get the role right. If you've seen main prem ki diwani hoon then you can see how botched up the confident girl persona was by the same actress. Along with the perpetually high hero it was a mess. I've seen only some scenes of one Gul khan show and the hero just couldn't balance it out because he was too unsympathetic. It's unpopular opinion I know since the heros are very popular but the whole aggressive bitchy hero is not my thing.
