I think evryone will agree that Shoojit sircars October no doubt a good film( i loved it) but was a film that didnt had moments for laughter, or thrill .It was too dark. Yet it opened well and did decent.
Judgemental hai kya is being hailed as a dark thriller, unconventional movie, not for masses. But when i compare it with october, i find Judgemental as a commercial film near october.
Judgemental hai kya has funny moments, thrill, excitement yet its Box office performance doesnt resonate like october. We cant say that varun was pulling audience only.No. Even his massy fanbase was dissapointed. Luck is something that cant be ignored.
Audience is so unpredictable because October was more cliched, dark then judgemental hai kya but still it earned good compared to Judgemental.
Judgemental got critical acclaim more than october. There were critics who loved october but expected piku kiund of stuff from shoojit. some critics criticised the pace of movie.
But in judgemental despite the shadow ban by journalists, all media people loved it. Strange was those people who dont tweet about friday releasing movies regularly like shobha de, aarti tikoo, shekhar gupta just loved the film.Its very rare when journalists who are not film journalists or critics were responding positively.
And it wasnt only kangnas film, Rajkumar Rao was also the central partof narrative. he wa sin the posters. His last film stree did very well.
Conclusion is no matter whoever is there in film, if the story atrracts audience, filmmakers win. Now the problem is which story audience likes is difficult to ascertain. Because i feel both Kalank and Total dhamaal were bad scripts but look Total dhamaa was Hit and enjoyed by family audiences a lot and seeing madhuri-anil together alongside ajay. Very difficult to understand pattern of audiences choices.
