By woke I mean more sensitive towards issues in our society and their industry as well. I didn't put HW on pedestal because they are overdoing it and it is very annoying.. Look how Oscars have turned into a joke because of all the political correctness. All I wanted to state was how our industry is so damn ignorant. All we get is some fake outlash from Bollywood celebs when there is some major event otherwise everyone is busy being vain. One example is how they have completely ignored and nullified the Nepotism debate😒
In any industry, to survive or for financial gain, people become complacent to the wrong doings of themselves and fellow colleagues. It was evident in the hollywood case, that the whole lot of them were complacent and went along with behind the doors Harvey Weinstein terror, same thing happens in bollywood. You are there for money, for your career, just like any other professional, social issues are very secondary thing to them. Which is of course not ideal, and they being the public and "revered" figures do have some responsibility to show care, concern, or some insight for the public sphere. Though again, you have to weigh the costs there, as just like those metoo allegations, people are going to ignore your "truth," they will show outrage first, then ultimately forget about it and move on. And while we are at it, why are we just holding these celebrities responsible, the indian culture itself is complacent in terms of bollywood's darkness, they don't question the nepotism, they mock, deride, and question the girls in those casting couch stories meanwhile giving the guy a second after thought. The horribleness of bollywood's various realities stem from the attitude of the us indians. They are the dark reflection of our collective conscious, as we have been complacent in real life also, so why not let bollywood carry over that complacency?
The change needs to come from the prople first and foremost, the collective mindset needs to evolve. We can't hold them alone responsible. We have to become more involved and aware as a whole.
