It’s one thing to like or not like a film...that’s s free choice

Downright narcissistic to question others liking the film...much like the “unlikeable” kabir Singh himself

Didn’t we as feminists fight for a representation of women and lead female roles with no moral policing attached to them in a film? She can drink, she can smoke, she can have pre martial sex, she can have sex with multiple men, she can cheat on her husband, she can leak an mms take of herself? BUt leave me to decide what kind of a woman she is? ....don’t tell me what I should think of her right?

The cheating wife in kank and manmarziyan can get her happy ending without endorsing cheating? The mms leaking Tara in made in heaven can grow a concionse in the last episode without making her acts seem ok.

Similarly, leave me to judge if kabir Singh is a misogynist, misguided man child, narcissist, monster, or a character with flaws....him getting a song playing in the background or a happy ending should not colour anybody’s views about positivity and negativity? He does not HAVE to get a consequence for adults to be able to get their sensible takeaways from the story....I didn’t find that the film covered him in positive or negative light ...it left us to decide what he is...yes he gets a sad song for himself, but every character in the film is also vexed with him and calls him a Sanki, paagal

This whole “our youth will get badly influenced” debtate holds as much water as saying watching kank will make ppl cheat on their partners....or girls will start drinking and smoking and swearing if they watch veere di wedding...

Can we all be adults and decide for ourselves? It’s an adult film after all?

I like how people are justifying this film by deflecting to Ranveer fans or trying to make it seem as if this bullshit would have flown over people better had it been a foreign film. Newsflash to such people, douchebags are douchebags everywhere, doesn't matter whether they are in foreign films or in Indian. Most of us in this forum are bollywood film watchers thus point out the disgusting glorification of blatant misogyny in a hindi film. Your deflection is not making this issue seem any better!

Just imagine if this role was done by a woman?

it might hv received some bright reviews here n there but wld hv bombed at BO.

Men's glorification of crime or wrong doings have always been justified but the person should be popular enough - a great actor, politician or a cricketer.

indian women should be the last one to support feminism because i don't think it even exists, if it does its only about 10%. We have most of the women cheering for men in every field and then they talk about equality.

i dont have any problems with kabir singh as a film because we have already had a film in similar genre of DEV D the problem lies in people cheering for such mygonistic attitude that reflects the deep rooted problem in our society and our actors who should feel responsible in changing the scenario keep doing such kind of roles.

Ummm she is a film movie critic, it's her job to watch movies and then review them. So, that includes shitty movies. She is not compelling anyone to dislike the movie, she is giving her review. I don't know how someone could compel someone to dislike a movie. She is deducing the problematic themes in the movie, if people don't care about it, then can go and enjoy the movie. I know 2 of my friends who don't really read reviews and have watched this movie and said they found it to be "sexist". They don't even know anything about Sucharita so, yes people can form their own opinions without being compelled.

I don't care about who bring in Ranveer, but my comment about foreign movies is not to defend Kabir Singh's misogyny. To reflect hypocrisy of some Indian pretentious critics. These guys rave about movies like Godfather, Clockwork Orange, Tarantino and so on which also glorification of vices, but when it comes to Indian movies, their critical sensibilities goes out of the window. I am not saying don't appreciate these foreign movies, but at least do same kind of treatment for all movies.

I am not saying don't criticise the misogyny or heap praises only but at least give a review which covers every aspect of the movie, rather than concentrating on just one and bashing the movie. Sorry but I don't appreciate these type of hypocrisy from pretentious testicles like Rahul and hypocrites like Tyagi, who was missing during ADHM, because it was her dear Ranbir's movie.

Haven't watched ADHM, nor the white-washed glorification of "sanju," and I understand your point about hypocrisy of the critics, which in many instances is undeniably present. But from what all I'm hearing, there seems to be no redeeming point in this movie. Asking a woman to undress at a knife point, the very blurry and dubious skip over consent, kissing a girl right after first talking to her, slapping her, and the list just ridiculously seems to go on. I'm not a voracious movie watcher, thus I don't know about the latter two foreign movies you pointed out, but at least in godfather's case, though it can be called misogynist to an extent, that misogyny is not the main focus of the film, it is a more of an aftermath of that world. Yet, this is marketed as a love story. The supposive "love" is the core focus and that's where the real issue is, this is not love, it is an asshole in the name of a hero whose actions are being glorified and a meek female who takes all the crap given to her it seems. As a female, it is shocking that such characters can be accepted or even celebrated by the masses.

^^ I understand love is usually seen as a positive emotion so showing an asshole in love can be conflicting..

But he can just be an asshole in love....and his love story can be an effed up one..

The film starts off with him looking around for sex like a despo and doing despicable things...he spends most of the film being an asshole and also being called one.....he pees his pants as the interval shot...clearly the film isn’t interested in him being liked...or relatable...it’s just an interesting take on how effed up love stories and people can actually be
