I’ve never seen people make such a big deal about a bare back! LOL Priyanka gets people so pressed!

Ps. She said NOT all Indian outfits are like Christmas trees which is what they show in Hollywood films and TV. Whenever Indian wear is shown in American entertainment they always pick the most gaudy stuff, that’s what she’s talking about which is true. Even when my PM Justin Trudeau came to India with his cabinet they all wore the most gaudy stuff and all I could think of was where they found these clothes, I think westerns think the more shiny and OTT the better or something. Priyanka was just dispelling that.

I dnno just because people in history or today wear sarees without blouses how would people be comfortable today. I mean if people are like no need of a blouse then what about a bikini. Should people start wearing small things to cover nipples and not bother for the top? Plus if you wear no blouse you are more vulnerable to wadrobe malfunction and would literally have to hold the saree to your chest.

It was not only the Bengali women who used to wear saree with out blouse . It was the same in South as well. There are ample examples across many temple spanning over all the northern states , where women has been sculpted in the walls as topless with their breast uncovered and only in some of them a loose piece of clothes worn like dupatta or odni , NOT tied across the chest or covering the breast. The famous sculptures of khajuraho ( MP ) , Konark , Lingaraj temple ( orissa) , sun temple of Gujrat ... one state yeah right. Why people bother opening their mouth when they are little informed??

Lastly , Tagore family women didn't usher in practice of wearing blouses with saree just in Bengal , but in India. This family was held in high esteem from a cultural point of view across the country, which enabled them to have such an influence.

I'd also like to attach this article by BBC that discusses the advent of blouse within Indian style and fashion.

Next time you jump at me , open some books and please do some background checking.

P.s. I'm not a PC fan .

If you're not a PC fan, you shouldn't have taken offence to my post anyway.

Did you see what I quoted? Clearly it's written that sari evolved from a garment which was 3 piece. The whole argument was that saree was always worn without a blouse in India until the British came. And clearly that has been disproved. Whatever examples you've mentioned are still just versions of saree. Topless women where breasts are uncovered, that garment need not be sari at all. So, in a country as diverse as India, there have been so many variations in clothing style over the centuries and over the regions. But to say that saree is traditionally worn without blouse and that British introduced it is a stupid statement. They may have introduced the modern blouse or just blouse in particular areas but it has been originally a part of the attire. Just that common folk used to wear less clothes anyway.

I didn’t know that was Sari Deepika was wearing and was passing it off as Indian Attire.

When everything else fails make it about Deepika fans when most commenting aren’t even one. 🙄

P.S I could care less about what PC was wearing.
