The whole industry is doing this after Kalank's debacle. Even though it's a good practice but it's still not a foolproof one. The focus group watch the films in it's raw form without any sort of final sound mixing or designing or good background music. Even VFX done is very basic in the film. So when the whole film is a bit kaccha, there's a lot of chance for the audience to feel bored of the film not because of its screenplay and story but because of the missing sound designing and other factors which play a huge role in movie watching experience.
But the VFX and music not being like the end product shouldn't matter THAT much. I mean, that's a given.. people watching this are aware, right?
IF the STORY/DIALOGUE is good, the acting -engaging.. and the actors portray the roles well..or they FIT their role and give the lines meaning.. someone can go past the lack of all the 'trimmings' added later.
I mean just by reading a scriipt you should be able to know if there's enough ,meat' to hold the movie. Then you look at how the actors portray. And OF COURSE you have to give lenience for the stuff that's not finalised... as they know they are not watching the final product.
