Was Deepika Really That Great?

I feel like because Alia is so talked about people are automatically missing Deepika

But I remember those Cockedtail days, was Deepika really that good? She would just make watery eyes and hand motions and we thought she was wow. I am not saying shes bad, but now because the new bad is Alia, the old bad Deepika seems good?...but why? Deepu was also strictly average

The frozen expressions in Mastani were blamed on the enlarged nose ring but I didnt feel that Deewani Deewani thing she was trying to do, and then in YJHDeewani she was again not so Deewani.

People now saying she was wow in Mujhko Rang Do Lal because of Ghar More Videshiya? Is it fair to elevate someone just because someone currently is worse?

I remember watching Padmavat and being disappointed by Deepika's poor dialogue delivery and expressionless glances. So we cannot be hormonal about Alia winning for Raazi because she actually does deserve it, this is the fact that we have to accept.

She did well in Sanjay's movies. Her worst has to be Houseful. It was clear she was not convinced about Sandy herself so could never convince the audiences. The same Deepika made Meena endearing and fun and Mohini hilarious and an adorable dork. She was good in Lafangey Parindey but was bad in Aarakshan but was good again in Khelein hum.... . So before cocktail she was not consistent. After 2012 she has been a consistent performer. Mastani never had the cushioning of sympathy of being a wronged one even though she was wronged on many stages of her life. But since she chose the life she lead audiences identified with Kashi more than Mastani. But Deepika still managed to play it endearingly and bought out chemistry with Ranveer in literal 9 scenes they had with eachother and convinced audiences of the love and devotion bajirao n mastani shared.

She is not The IT actress definitely. Long way to go.

I agree with each and every word. Deepika is the most overrated actress in recent times. She was awful in BM and Padmaavat and yeah, the nose ring cannot be blamed for it Lol. No wonder Priyanka annihilated her in BM and Aditi overshadowed her in Padmaavat. DP does have grace and elegance though.

Haven't seen much of her other work apart from these 2 films but judging by this, she's average when it comes to acting skills.

Whatever she was... SRK,HR and RK deserve one film each with her.I can't imagine them having the same impact with any other actress doing films now.

All the 3 haven't signed any films.I am hopeful.

Since u are comparing Deepika with Alia, Alia will always be a better actress, baki glamour, fan following etc Deepika might be ahead.

I agree that with the right script HR and DP would be beautiful on screen. Surprised it hasn't happened yet! She can do without RK lol but SRK desperately needs a hit and him and DP have always been great on screen!

As for Alia and Deepika.. I'm sorry but there is literally no comparison, which is even more clear after Kalank. Alia is a good actress, but she wouldn't have gone too far without Dharma and Kjo. I can't see Alia doing a Piku, Cocktail, Chennai Express, all of which are very different and equally loved characters. And then of course the SLB films.. if anything, Kalank helped the audience appreciate Aishwarya, DP etc. in SLB movies.

Deepika was pretty bad in the beginning tbh, but she fell, and rose, and got better - she has a massive fan following, brand deals, and star presence. I mean she was literally the highest paid actress on par with the heros.. despite having no releases for the last two years just because of her brand deals - that alone speaks volumes.
