Kalank had a good start at the box office with occupancy of around 35-40%. The morning occupancy are similar to Gully Boy but that was lopsided with heavy metro collections due to urban youth. Here the initial is mora all rounded.
The highest opening day of 2019 is Kesari but that film had lower occupancy in the morning as it was Holi but went very strong post the afternoon shows. Kalank has chances to be the highest opening day of the year as it is a holiday for Mahavir Jayanti and evening collections should be strong as the film has more for that audience than for the youth. The youth audience has mainly come due to the popularity of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt among that sector but eventually it is the family and female audience which will drive a drama like Kalank.
Kalank had a good teaser but then that big hit song and action was missing from the other units that come out so it has done very well to get this sort of start. Its a five day weekend so a start like this ensures a big weekend unless the film is not up to the mark. There will be two minor holidays on Wednesday and Friday and then Saturday and Sunday to come.
