Aamir Khan and Salman Khan had rejected Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, which went on to complete a 1,000 weeks at the theatres and Shah Rukh Khan came out of it as the winner. However, Shah Rukh Khan too rejected Rajkummar Hirani's Munna Bhai M.B.B.S, which went on to become a cult film and revived Sanjay Dutt's career.
Similarly, Ranbir Kapoor, one of the finest actors of this generation, has rejected his fair share of movies. Coincidentally, most of his rejected films were taken up by Ranveer Singh and every single of them turned out to be a blockbuster. 1) Band Baaja Baaraat
Believe it or not, the movie that launched Ranveer Singh in Bollywood, his debut film had originally been offered to Ranbir Kapoor. Aditya Chopra, the chief of Yash Raj Films, wanted to cast the Sanju actor in the lead role, however, Ranbir didn't find the script interesting and turned it down. Following that, Adi Chopra decided to launch a fresh face and in came Ranveer Singh to play Bitto and won our hearts.
2) Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela
Having assisted and starred in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, Saawariya (2007), Ranbir Kapoor was the first choice when SLB had decided to make Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. Once again, Ranbir Kapoor turned it down and Bhansali went on to cast Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. The movie not only became a blockbuster, but Deepika and Ranveer also fell in love on the sets of the film.
3) Dil Dhadakne Do
Ranbir Kapoor has, in the past, expressed his desire to be directed by Zoya Akhtar. However, the the filmmaker has knocked on his door as she wanted to cast him in Dil Dhadakne Do, the actor turned her down. The film went on to be a big hit and what was Ranbir's loss, once again became Ranveer Singh's gain.
4) Befikre
While it wasn't a blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination, but Ranveer Singh-starrer film, which paired him opposite Vaani Kapoor, had also been offered first to Ranbir Kapoor. Aditya Chopra, who has never directed a film without Shah Rukh Khan, wanted his first non-SRK directorial venture to star Ranbir Kapoor. But like Band Baaja Baaraat, Ranbir had rejected starring in this YRF project as well. And as had become a trend by now, once again, the role went to Ranveer. Although, in hindsight, we wonder if the film would have been successful if Ranbir Kapoor had starred in it instead of Ranveer Singh.
5) Gully Boy
Last but not the least, Ranveer Singh's latest flick Gully Boy, which has been directed by Zoya Akhtar and has received overwhelmingly positive responses from critics and fans alike, was also first offered to Ranbir Kapoor. Today, we can't even imagine anyone else but Ranveer playing the street rapper named Murad. Can you imagine how this film would have turned out to be if Ranbir had splayed Murad aka Gully Boy opposite Alia Bhatt's Safeena?
