A copy & paste from other Hindi movies from the start with the water dunk babe to her speech at the end. I tried to be objective watching this and honestly it does not even qualify as an informational movie, because when you look up history you find this has a lot of missing or enhanced fantasy. You also find a lot of information on the making of this farce, which turned into a three ring circus perhaps making that more entertaining than the movie itself. The direction is sketchy and more than about a supposedly historical queen, this movie is a moving selfie about the not too attractive over-actor lead who missed the mark by a mile in portraying anything that may resemble Hindi royalty. The worst of all, are the special effects, the tiger, the elephant hop and skip copied from a SLB film, the dreadful battle scenes (swords that cut bone like butter) the lead is a possessed woman who suffers from reverse lockjaw, and has a perpetual open mouth grimace that looks like she is constipated rather than fierce. Cinematography is atrocious, the action scenes are stiff and many of them are not fluid enough to show them in one motion as they usually end with cut away camera work, or jerky patch ups, reminding you of shows like 1970's Batman and Robin where the action would cut away to a talk bubble with "pow" "thump" etc...really inexcusable with all the available computer technology . There are many technical and scenery mistakes in the film, from the electric chandeliers to the weapons not in circulation in that era nor in that quantity. I could go on pointing details but really why bother, this is like beating a dead horse, much like the one they claim was used for this mess of a movie. I am so sorry as I was looking forward to a good Hindi Bhansalieske style masterpiece, since they pilfered a lot of scenes and even actual sets that are his, the least they could have done was to follow thru on the story. Manikarnika is a disappointment, I think the Hindi film industry can do much better and important historical figures deserve better, this movie that was touted as a large budget Magnum Opus turned out to be a huge Magnum Flopus.

It is very refreshing to see a very different film. I enjoyed the music, the dancing and the glimpse into a culture I must admit I know very little about. And of course the action scenes. I thought Ranaut's acting was superb.

Some things are brushed so fast that ..It took time for me to relate to the history of some incidents like when European ladies and kids were attached or how Rani takes over Gwalior.. its true that Gwalior soldiers supported Rani so they didnt not fight and so Raja had to escape but ..they could have shown how they got convinced instead of making it too simple that with 1 mins speech by rani they stopped attacking her. I didnt like the CGI specially when Rani ties her son at her back and jumps that looked very unreal ... that was for me very important scene as we always see rani with her child tied to her back. other wise movie is good.

It is always amazing to read/watch about the history of India. Jhansi is one of the special stories. Kangana has done a good job playing Jhansi Ki Rani Lakshmibai. Must watch to understand about the history of India, Jhansi and about the Indian freedom movement.

I wish I could give this movie more stars, an amazing screenplay, narration and depiction of an truly epic Indian queen. Jhansi ki Rani is etched in both Indians hearts and history and this movie is know embossed in my heart. I have a newfound respect and admiration for Kangana as an actor and performer. She played Rani Laxmibai flawlessly. She didn't receive half the praise and adulation for this movie which she truly deserved. This movie has truly outdone its counterparts such as Padmavati with ease. This will remain one of my favorites.
