I don't think anyone expected anything explicit but there are very few scenes between the lovers. It's as if they were scared to show too much. More than that they seemed to have given other supporting roles more meat than Kuhu who is meant to be the ladki in the title. They have misled a section of the audience to an extent.
But like someone said here earlier, it's good that many people wanted more of Kuhu and Sweety.
There haven't been any ROMANTIC same-sex stories. They've all been overly sexualised where as Kuhu and Sweetys is shown in a pure romantic manner. So they can't use the excuse that it's been done before because it hasn't.
They didn't mislead anyone. It was obvious from the get go that it was about a father/daughter relationship. Those who'll claim to have been mislead at at fault as it's your own duty to inform yourself about what you're going to see.
The movie is unusual in the sense that Sonam an A-list Bollywood actress plays a character that is in fact gay and that despite her family being open-minded going as far as being okay with her marrying a Muslim, she knows her family won't accept her homosexuality.
It's a movie that is supposed to help people open themselves more and know that even if it's hard to come out to their family and friend, there will always be someone who'll accept them (friend or family).
Sonam in the movie is at least shown as having a girlfriend and not just crushing on someone who is awaking her homosexuality or queerness.
I read a tweet about Surviving R. Kelly that stated that families will be quick to kick out their gay relative but will conceal the pedophile one. And it's so true for all communities. Remember Moonsoon Wedding and also let's wonder why pedophilia isn't addressed in India while their was a law preventing homosexuality.
Finally let's not forget that when the movie originally was okayed (script finalised, shooting started), the Section 377 was still very much in place.
I find it baffling that pseudo critics won't criticize a movie while taking in account the context (social, political) in which a movie is being made.
