Budgets and all that is a whole other topic. Look at last year's Hithki...it didnt even reach 50 crores.

Oh don't say that .. You're making some very "unhappy" campers! .. 😆

@Bold: No one can DENY that at all .. no matter how many excuses get piled up! ...Go Kangana!... 🥳

Your "personal opinion" has nothing to with BO figures! ... BO will follow what they have always done in the past: Go with "Distribution value" when determining the "verdict"! .. 😛

Wait .. What ?.. 😆

I was under the impression that a film has to recover its distribution costs as well as its budget in its domestic theatrical run in order for it to be called an average fare .. Anything above that is a profit & will bring it closer to hit/superhit/BB/ATBB status .. Anything below that means film has been rejected which appears to be the case with Manikarnika ..

As for Padmavat , it gave tremendous returns in terms of distribution costs & made profits over its budget in its domestic theatrical run .. Hence , the blockbuster status ..

From what we have discussed many pages back and from what I read, it's all "distribution costs" ... Distribution costs determine the BO verdict!

LIke Cougar mentioned, Housefull earned 100cr on 100cr budget, yet it got average tag! ... With Padvamat budget is 215cr it made 282cr ... Again if only budget was taken into consideration it would get a semi hit or hit tag but it is a Blockbuster ... It is BB becoz distribution cost is 110cr for Padvamat! ... So it all depends on what price a movie was sold to distribitors!

Now you would ask why will makers sell for less than budget ... it's becoz producers make up for the difference through satellite, music rights etc!

Hope that helps! ..

Was it made by Kangana fans or haters .. I can't tell ..😆

Looks like it was made to mock Manikarnika - the film .. Couldn't they have at least used a better still of Kangana from the movie ?! ..😆.. Reminds me of cheap flex board posters which are often spotted in gullies wishing some bratty teen happy birthday in Pune/Mumbai streets ..😆

And for Manikarnika, distribution cost is around 60 to 65 cr ... That's why trade is still not sure how the movie will "fare"! ... So it all depends how it does in week 2 and how far the movie can extend it's value!

I am least bothered by what was discussed a few pages ago ..

Can I have an example of a film which was given a hit tag even though the film didn't even break even with its budget in its domestic theatrical run ?

As per the above quoted logic , a film doesn't even need to recover its budget to be deemed a HIT ..

Distribution costs matters .. It matters a LOT ! .. But that alone cannot be a parameter to determine fate of the film .. Satellite rights etc etc isn't taken into account to determine box office results .. It does help the producers but box office results ought to be determined on its own merit .. Distribution costs is just one of major contributing factors in determining BO results, not the only one ..

I never said that! ... Satellite and music rights help producers recover budget ... so they can afford to sell a movie for less to distributors! ...

While BO verdict is determined mainly based on "Distribution costs" by trade .. and may be other factors/formula we aren't aware of!.. But It isn't based on budget fosho! [that's the point I was refuting initially]! ... If you don't think so, it's fine too! ... I'll go by BOI and Taran when they tabulate the final result! ...

[ETA .. Attaching the link here for Housefull 3 .. just found... It was used as an example by Cougar! ... https://boxofficeindia.com/movie.php?movieid=3296 ... so you see budget here is 97cr .. BO return 107 cr ... Only 10cr more and it got a HIT tag! ...

https://boxofficeindia.com/movie.php?movieid=3550 ... For Tubelight ... Budget 135cr .. BO return 114cr .. yet got "below average" not "flop"! Hence, Verdicts are determined by "distribution cost" than "budget"!

For Manikarnika ... movie may not be declared a hit ... but it has a chance to do average business according to trade since it's distribution cost is around 60 to 65cr! .. so it all depends on how the movie fares this week! ...
FYI: BOI lists budget of 99cr for Manikarnika

I hope you were serious about this "discussion" since I have gone out and dug out some links from BOI] ... Rest if you still think otherwise, it's your prerogative! ...
