Just finished watching Simmba in a packed theatre. Have to give this one to Ranveer, this guy is awesome in everything he does. Comedy, emotional and action.. He did it all with so much conviction that we all can be sure he would be the next megastar of Bollywood. The movie is engaging in first half, a bit preachy in second half but Ranveer shines throughout the show. hooting, whistling and clapping is very uncommon in theatres here, but saw it all happening today.

3/5 purely coz I don't like this genre
but had to go for friends who endured Zero for me.

Hats off to Rohit for coming up with this analogy...When I first heard of Simmba, the first picture that I visualized was of my innocent but yet ferocious Lion King and so glad to know that Rohit had also the same in mind...And how true is it today, especially for how Rohit has reintroduced Ranveer, the Matinee mass idol, to the BW world!!!

I had the same thought last night...tht Singham is Mufasa and Sangram Bhalerao is Simmba...and someone not only made the art work, but even Rohit shared it...😆

cute to see Rohit as Rafiki 😛

Just returned home. Watched the noon show which was the fdfs here and am stumped.
The first thing that comes to your mind is the trailer and how badly it did disservice to Ranveer because in the movie the way he owned it is something you have to see to understand. There wasnt one dull moment with him which surprised me because usually atleast in the last 2 years masala movies didnt really click with me. This one did and not only that I wanted more in the end. The movie feels grossly unfinished and incomplete when the credits roll. I wanted to see more of Simmba.

The story is cliche. The handling of the story too isnt something new but Ranveer and Rohit floored me. Sara was fresh and I want to add this because I almost had this as an afterthought that their chemistry works wonders because of how familiar Simmba feels after a while. Like when I saw tere bin without having any idea about Simmba's character I thought they had no chemistry but once the song happens in the flow of things it makes perfect sense.

Ranveer's comic timing and just his mohile jokes had even the multiplex audience with him hooting and clapping. It was just weird because the jokes are lame but the execution was so endearing it was funny. 😆

Now the real winner in my opinion and something that makes me want a sequel is Ranveer's intense fighting scenes and just the way he was in the second half. His throw of his commanding voice or the crackling emotion on his face. How I shall I put this- I havent seen a hero emoting so flawlessly during fight scenes where people usually are stoic as shit. Its funny how me and my friends kepy waiting for him to beat someone up.😆 There's this one scene where he loses control and beats the two minor villains in the station before being stopped and something about that scene is so real.

Story wise the plot is very half cooked and lecture-y but it's also very clear and fast paced so not dull. Now the Singham bit is nice but adds nothing to it. Its more of a gimmick. Same with the other one. But Ranveer holds screen space with Ajay with equal measure. The difference in their physicalities as cops also make stunning shots.

In all I enjoyed my time thoroughly. The laughs the claps and hooting adds to the experience. The BG and sound direction is a winner and I really loved Ashutosh Rana and Siddharth too. Sonu though. He's done roles like this so many times that it doesn't really warrant praise. Its a very one toned performance. I wish we had someone new in his role. Someone more menacing.

Anyway guess who's going for a Sunday show with a different group of friends again 😆 I'm literally so endeared by Simmba right now. I recommend this movie to people who hate hin too cause one of my friends isnt too fond of anyone in Bolly. She hates them all but she came out a Ranveer fan in the end. Full on gushing and hearteyes. It was hilarious to see 😆

Simbaa Has Good Opening
Friday 28 December 2018 13.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Simmba took a good opening of around 35% which is a little better than last weeks Zero. The film has the blockbuster ticket rate pricing like Sanju, Thugs Of Hindostan and Zero at multiplexes which has meant the film has bulit huge capacity like the films above. Normally you would be comparing the opening of this film with a Baaghi 2 which is similar as far as casting goes though Simbaa has a much bigger director but ticket pricing is at a completely different level to Baaghi 2

The difference between Zero and Simmba is basically the the Mumbai belt. Zero could not really take off in Gujarat at all which meant first day collections in Mumbai circuit of just 5 crore nett apprx but here Simbaa is on course to do 7 or even 8 crore nett due to a strong response in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Most of the other circuits will be mainly lower to Zero unless there is a solid upturn in the evening but the gaps will be minimal maybe 10-15% with Simbaa even ahead in the likes of CP Berar and CI. If the first day figure of Simbaa comes out ahead of Zero it will be mainly down to Mumbai circuit which is 40-50% better than Zero.

The film should beat the opening day collection of Padmaavat even though it has opened to lower occupancy than that film. Padmaavat had many release issues which meant it could could not open in many places but took a good opening wherever it opened.

It should emerge the best opening day of Ranveer Singh in terms of collections but like Zero it will be Saturday and Sunday that is crucial because the opening is good but its not huge which makes the trend very important. The hope will be this film goes upwards over the weekend rather than the downward trend of Zero. If the families come on Sunday it will mean a good end to the year.

The opening of the film is best in Western and Central India with UP and Bihar also recording good numbers. Delhi, Punjab, Kolkatta and Bangalore are average but the evening collections could improve especially in the Delhi NCR belt which tends to be strong in the Fri-Sun period over Xmas and New Year.

Final Opening Positions 2018: Simbaa 9th - Thugs 1st - Zero 11th
Friday 28 December 2018 14.00 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Simbaa had the ninth best opening of the year and the morning shows in terms of occupancy were in between a 2.0 and Zero but like Zero the capacity is much higher than 2.0 due to ticket rates so the potential of business is much higher.

Last week Zero failed to beat the first day number pof 2.) when it looked it should as it far higher capacities but the reports probably hit that film. Its a repeat for Simbaa as though occupancy is a little lower than 2.0 the fact that it has higher ticket rates and capacity it should be able to go past 2.0.

Thugs Of Hindostan is the biggest opening of 2018 and is the only BUMPER opening of 2018 along with Baaghi 2. Thug Of Hindostan released on a national holiday while Baaghi 2 was a a minor holiday. Sanju and Race 3 (pre Eid) took EXCELLENT openings on non holidays as did Gold and Satyemeva Jayate on a national holidays. The rest on the chart below can be classified as GOOD openings. Fifteen films have taken GOOD or better initials this year and they are listed below.

The top openings of 2018 are as follows. The film opening wider is given precedence for ranking

1. Thugs Of Hindostan - 65% (4700 screens) (NATIONAL HOLIDAY)

2. Baaghi 2 - 57.5% (3500 screens) (HOLIDAY)

3. Sanju - 55% (4200 screens)

4. Gold - 52.5% (3050 screens) (NATIONAL HOLIDAY)

5. Race 3 - 50% (4300 screens)

6. Satyameva Jayate - 45% (2550 screens) (NATIONAL HOLIDAY)

7. Padmaavat - 42.5% (3750 screens)

8. 2.0 - 37.5% (4150 screens)

9. Simbaa - 35% (4000 screens)

-. Veere Di Wedding - 35% (2200 screens)

11. Zero - 30% (4450 screens)

. Badhaai Ho - 30% (2000 screens) (HOLIDAY)
