I don't agree with all of the choices like why was Deepika there, Padmavaat wasn't a path breaking role..she barely had much to do but don nice clothes and look regal, only towards the end did she have a long monologue before the end

I had to actually think back why Anushka was on, well she was good in Sui Dhaaga and Pari but not Sanju and Zero

As for the rest I totally agree...

Come on Alia did well in Raazi for a female driven movie hitting 100 crores despite being handed opportunities she delivers is important

Don't forget Tapsee had Mulk which I think she was great and also Manmarziyaan which her acting was great but maybe the character wasn't very as compared to the guys roles

Well I suppose if Rajeev were to remove Deepika he would have replaced her with Sonam which people would also say don't deserve to be here

I do agree with a member's point that Neena Gupta's character was overrated as she didn't have much to say or do if anything the dadi's character was fantastic should have brought Surekha Sikri instead then.

Come to think of it, DP had the titular role and her name got the film a massive opening and is one the biggest hits of 2018.

Because with even just 1 Bollywood film in 3+ years she is still the most relevant popular female superstar of the country, arguably. Not to mention Padmavati was a resounding success. *wink

Despite Deepika's mediocre performance, she was paid more than her co stars and I guess that's why she was included in the panel. She was in a sort of way, a newsmaker for her payment which is unheard of these days in BW.

Rani had Hichki which did really good business despite her being the stereotypical 'married aunty with kid' of Bollywood.

Alia had Raazi. WOM only works after the first show of the day but the opening of a film is solely due to the lead actor or a superblu entertaining,massy trailer which Raazi wasn't. Alia got in the numbers out of her own stardom.

Anushka brought in the horror genre after a long time in BW with Pari as a producer and actor. Also was experimental in taking up such a role for a lead actreds of her kind.

Andhadhun wouldn't have been Andhadhun without Tabu. A good thriller needs to have an equally good villain which Tabu was. And it was an unanimous praise from everybody- the critics and the audience.

Taapsee equally had one of the best years of her career or should I say the best year of her career till now. She doesn't have the luxury to choose big films with big stars but from whatever she chose, she did great. Two completely different performances as Rumi and Aarti. She was terrific in Mulk, especially in the second half of the film. Very restrained and controlled. She had a huge hand in making the courtroom drama look believable unlike other such films in Bollywood. I really feel she should be nominated for her performance in Mulk.

So I find all of them worthy of being a part of the roundtable.

This is a Bollywood roundtable so star factor does actually matter. That's just the way the industry is...why else do we get those ranking lists?

Anyway, like somebody else said in this thread she was paid the most for Padmaavat and since pay disparity gets brought up in these kinds of interviews it makes sense for her to be involved.

But the roundtable is not for just acting. It's for the breakout stars in every facet of the film business- be it acting, business, gender issues..everything. They anyways don't discuss acting at roundtables but the industry as a whole...not just here, happens the same way in the west as well!
