Their flute arrangements are very much like illayarajas. But when they stick to their strengths they are very good. Like the jeev dangala or apsara aali songs. Yad lagla on the other hand is super influenced by illayaraja.

Their music in natrang was like beyond magical. They are supremely talented, maybe bollywood songs are not their forte? Their work in agneepath still remains their best in bollywood. Deva shree ganeshas' music is one of the best i have heard.

Ajay-Atul are considered as the A R rehman of Maharashtra. Their compositions have been brilliant in the past. They are hardworking.
Though their recent compositions were not upto expectations doesn't make them any less talented. And comparing them to Pritam is unfair. Pritam's most of the hit compositions are copied from korean, Indonesian, Egyptian and such other languages.

I have only listened to a few compositions of his and most of them and remind me of some song composed by Illayaraja...
But that doesn't mean they don't have any original talent...Most of the songs are raga based and it could just be that they may have been using similar notes as Illayaraja...

The point is, they have given really good compositions so far and just because they didn't deliver a couple of times doesn't mean they have run out of their talent...Even Illayaraja, ARR and many other good composers have had their share of not so good work...Its okay to criticize but not okay to completely write off someone just basing on one or two failures...

BTW, I thought the 'husn parcham' of zero was amazing...It has a unique beat to it and has the potential of growing on you...

Something about their sound arrangements don't go well with Hindi lyrics. I loved yaad lagla but then same tune failed badly in pehli baar from Dhadak cz the lyrics in Hindi didn't suit the tune

Ajay-Atul's music sensibilities are simply not resonating with big event bollywood movies. I've heard they 've rendered some brilliant, soul-stirring composition in Marathi and probably they feel more comfortable and liberating working in the home territory or simply films with Marathi background.

As far as their hindi film music is concerned their range really falls short especially for the big event films. That connect is missing in their tunes/music , previously TOH, now Zero.
Personally if I recall their discography w.r.t B/Wo only that Agneepath number(thou Sonu walked away with major credit) and Dhadak title track stand out as the most memorable ones.

They are pretty inconsistent. Sometimes their music connects like no other can...but most of the times their compositions in hindi cinema don't register at all. The orchestral musical arrangements in some numbers, are all over the place and sound repetitive. I think they have to reinvent themselves by trying out different genres and different types of music.
