Both Dhoom and Dhoom 2 were the Best Action films and infact are the Biggest brand of YRF. They took the cool quotient and created a whole new genre of fast bikes and style.

YRF always had flops but somehow the Yash Chopra and Adi Chopra Directed films were memorable Love stories. People used to love their stories as it was old fashioned, chaste kind of love and Indian values etc.

But, they as well as SRK tried to revamp themselves by doing films like Jab Tak Hai Jaan. This fanbase felt let down by all the kissing and lovemaking scenes in a Yash Chopra and SRK movie as they were sold a different image for 25 years(not many know about Maya Memsaab).

Befikre failed to create new fanbase from new generation as people stopped being interested in Love stories and Romcoms by then. Old fanbase were repulsed by it.

Am talking about films directed by Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra only as they represent the Brand YRF.

Now, YRF as a company became greedy to exploit Dhoom series success and tried to replicate it by making crappy films directed by Victor like Tashan, Dhoom 3 and now,Thugs of Hindustan. Plus, Adi indulgence in Rani led to many flops like Tara Rum Pum, Lagaa Chunari and what not.

Barring Salman films like Sultan and TZH, I dont think they have had much success lately.

Few things one must know. YRF since 1972 up until Chandni released barely saw any success. Chandni was their first major success and that too was short lived as Lamhe was huge flop too. Darr happened and then no looking back until Mujhse Dosti Karogi. And then they've had hits and misses. Currently Salman's blockbusters, few hits like Hichki and Sui Dhaaga.

YRF has had more failures and moderate success than Blockbusters and runaway hits

YRF was always known for its monetary and star power than actual good movies. That's why they worked in an era where all you needed were stars. But now they need good scripts. YRF need to fund more Shimit Amins. Dharma is getting all the good scripts and directors.
