But they can't make as much money in non-filmy professions. Whereas doing couple of films (and the endorsement deals as a result of that) is enough for them to live off comfortably the rest of their lives and vacation in New York or London every other month. It also gives them the flexibility to pursue non-filmy options later.
Btw, random fact: Anyone remember Mayuri Kango? She cleared IIT but opted for Arts in college so that she can balance her acting career and studies, then did more than a dozen films before quitting the industry, getting married, moving to US, getting her MBA and working there for almost a decade. Now she works in digital advertising in Gurgaon/Mumbai.
She was a popular face and is still recognized by the clients she meets at work.
So switching to a non-filmy career even after getting that "semi-popularity" is not impossible. But most don't do it. Most filmy kids don't even think of a Plan B, so don't get their Bachelors degree. They know even if they don't make it as an actor, their mummy-papa will fix something for them - either set up a business, or get them a spot as an Assistant Director or whatever.
Whereas outsiders like a Kriti Sanon or a Kartik Aaryan will complete their formal education on the insistence of their parents before pursuing anything else.
