Boney Kapoor responds to allegations of using a plagiarised tribute video of Sridevi played at IIFA

Boney Kapoor responds to allegations of a Sridevi fan who accused the organisers of IIFA for using her fan-made video to pay tribute to Sridevi at IIFA 2018.

Late actor Sridevi was recently given a heartfelt tribute at the IIFA 2018 which was held in Bangkok last month. A heart touching tribute was played just before Boney Kapoor went up the stage to collect the award for Sridevi. Soon after the telecast, a fan named Saba Arif accused the organisers of IIFA for lifting the video from her youtube channel and trying to pass it as an original. Saba Arif took to her FB page and expressed her amusement on IIFA using the video she edited without asking her or giving her credit.
Her post, of course, garnered the much-desired attention and has gone viral since then. Now, Boney Kapoor responded to the allegations and told Hindustan Times, "Almost all of the clips in the video are owned by me or Yash Raj Films, thus, giving us the right to use them as we like. The video was approved by me for IIFA, after a discussion with YRF, and I'd like to know what gives her (Saba Arif) the right to claim it as her own. If she has a problem with the video, she should reach out to me rather than just make such accusations.
At IIFA, the same video gets a new male voice-over. A watermark with the letters IIFA can be seen at the bottom of the screen in this version of the video. When Saba was told of Boney's reply, she reacted saying, "Sure, the clips are his to own. But I put my heart and soul into this video it took me three days to make it. They didn't change the sequences of the clips or the song(s), and the fact that I had put all that together makes the concept my intellectual property. This was never about the same clips being used, but about my hard work being taken for such a show without any acknowledgement. It is still my video, and I'd like to be acknowledged for the same. I'm just surprised by this reaction to my post.
What do you have to say on this? Is it fair for Saba to ask for credit or not? Let us know in the comments below.

YRF has been taking down video mixes of fans for a decade now. Just because u happened to have used one of their songs for the mix. Youtube have sometimes even banned the account for the same reason.People even used to put a disclaimer that they are not doing this for commercial purpose but creative purpose. That still wasn't good enough for them. Its not new. The girl has no case here. She used their clips to make a tribute and they took it from her because it belongs to them. Merely by assembling clips ain't gonna make that her property.

I still stand by her! The least IIFA could do was acknowledge if they were leveraging her "montage" deliberately.

Boney and YRF could have made their own montage from the footage they own.🥱

Boney wrote long eulogies and got many BW stars to say how he was crying copious tears on the phone for the love of his life. And this good for nothing pretender couldn't even be bothered to make his own tribute or at least get someone to do it.
What a rat! Yuck. People should just boycott him and YRF. Who do they think they're. These studios and record companies are bloodsucking vampires who give pittance to artists' and now even plagiarise. Yes this is also plagiarism if they couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge maker Saba.
Haven't seen the tribute but surely Saba must have used content from some of Sri's movies other than YRF and Boney Kapoor ones. Does he have copyright on that too? Bloody...

I find it funny that IIFA had to pick a fan homage video rather than making their own or getting one done. How much time or money might a professionally made tribute video cost? Like when Sridevi isn't even worth that much to them , then why make a fake display of tribute for her.

Exactly! Less said about the lazy ass ceremonies, the better.

And then they've the gall to compete with a fan's selfless admiration and love for their beloved star. 👎🏼

I can imagine how many hours of effort it must have taken to conceptualize and make it seem so seamlessly on limited resources. That tireless effort is fueled by passion and love.

Golden Globes, Oscars, Emmies... always make their OWN montage. There is a dedicated team incharge of the nomination package clips, tributes, in memorian etc. ⭐️👏👏

The tribute video had clips from all the four movies stated above with sadma and EV being the major ones. Does Boney or YRF have the rights of the same? Did he also discuss with the producers of Sadma, etc and ask them for permission to play the video? They come up with such weird explanations now to save their face. It's a fan made video, obviously it's going to have clips from Sri's films. She won't create something of her own na?The only thing she can create is the concept and the way the clips have been arranged, put to music, designed and laid out with all the voiceovers. It's not a child's play to search for interviews of different celebrities and put them order in a sequence that would make the viewers emotional. IIFA didn't even change the font style! Because they obviously couldn't as it's been made by someone else and they were lazy enough to pass it as their own because people wouldn't anyways know it. And honestlyzif the tribute wasn't made so beautifully, would IIFA even think of using that and passing as their own?

Yes she doesn't have any case since the rights belongs to the producers but did she ever claim any monetary compensation for the same? All she did was point out IIFA's lazy ass at work and ask for proper credits.
And personally speaking, the tribute video by the fan is much better than the tamasha they did in the name of a tribute of Sridevi by making it a sad story of Janhvi and Arjun Kapoor. Where was Sridevi in the whole thing? They could've easily called some of her costars on stage and who did they call? Amar Singh! I will support the fan. Atleast her intentions were right and the tribute was heartfelt as a fan and not like IIFA who wanted to turn it into a daily soap for TRPs by continuously focusing on Diya shedding a tear or Arjun just standing there with a straight face.

Thank you !!! 👏👏

IIFA and Boney could have made their own editors and creatives make their own video than using a free video available online. That way they would claim all other fan-made videos as their own property and use it for their commercial ads and something similar but they only come out as some misers who can't afford to credit the editor who curated the small clips or make something of their own copyright videos. They just ruined the cause for such a small issue.

I agree that they should've made their own tribute but I think the fan that made it doesn't have a case... it's not her footage or property lol Boney is right in that case.

Boney is such a douchebag. Ok so the girl doesn't have rights technically, but she edited and created a montage for her idol. Give her a little credit, what would he lose by acknowledging her efforts. These petty actions for someone who is giving love to someone you once claimed to love so much!
