And as previously stated, majority of the people who don't identify as feminists, do believe in gender equality. So instead of name-calling men and women as chauvinists etc, a serious introspection is needed by feminists as to why feminism has such a bad rep today that so few want to identify with it.

Well considering that feminism has become the f-word for some people, I am not surprised that so many people make statements like this.

The problem is the word feminism or feminist have lost its true meaning which is about giving woman equal rights and opportunities.
The general understanding is that feminist is someone who hates men.
While a star like Kareena or Katrina or now Trisha, should not further misguide the people about it, rather educate people by making them understand that feminism means some one who stands for women rights and not someone who is anti-men.
But radical feminism and the ridicule it gets does make people stay away from the word.
So basically the term is outdated, just like gay is outdated which meant cheerful. And it is natural for terms to get outdated, if they all agree about the core meaning, which means equal rights, does it really matter whether they term themselves as feminist or equalist or whatever new term coined.
