Sairat.
I already knew the ending because I was the last one to watch it in my family and friends circle, yet I enjoyed as much as they did, especially the second part of the movie.

Also for calling Rinku not so pretty...Jhanvi was in the same boat till she got groomed... m sure Rinku on better grooming is going to be a fine lady... I personally liked her in Sairat for her innocence and fierce acting...

dont know who finds Jhanvi pretty then Rinku... they both are on the same level, Rinku is at least original and had not gone for surgeries before the movie... Also her look was as per the society that Archi lived in and Manjule wud never compromise with that...

Sairat is better than Dhadak
Rinku is better than Janhvi
Dharma is the worst
Marathi films are better than Hindi.

Just want to save time for all from the intellectuals that are about to come and type essays.

Sahi Kaha... Marathi Films and even other regional Films are 100 times better then some expensive crap that bollywood churns out... They have a certain innocence, a certain charm... they are honest towards the story n the creativity... if you can watch movie 'Time pass', that is also a teen love story but entirely different from Sairat yet a good story n Film

Box office results are.So that's the only basis on which we can discuss about audience acceptance for a film. Even a Shoojit coming with hits like Vicky Donor and Piku wasn't able to save October box office wise. What you are talking about are assumptions. BO doesn't work on assumptions, they work on results.

Regarding Dhadak not matching Sairat or having an imapct like QSQT is something that will depend from person to person. I for one definitely think that Sairat is unmatchable and a highly superlative film but the impact of both Sairat and Dhadak by the end was the same for me. This might vary person to person so we will never have a proper answer for that. You can be right, you might also be wrong.

err...October is def. not a flop. it's in the range of average/semi-hit status..most of the sites including koimoi declared it average only BOI is left. true BO doesn't work on assumptions but generally when the buzz of a film is high, it's likely to open well and then content does the talking. Dhadak's case was the same. another thing I agree is that we can go and on...and carry this debate in any direction u like..

Though it's yet to see whether Dhadak will be able to match up to Sairat box office wise, but it doesn't make the film a less loved one. I mean, a film being made with two newcomers based on a regional film without the usual Dharma lip sync song sequences, having three slow numbers and a slow paced second half earning 51 Cr in it's first weekend is no mean feat. I mean the opening numbers on Day 1 can come because of Shahid Kapoor's brother or Sridevi's daughter but the jump after that can only happen if the film in totality is loved. The makers and the kids must have done something good for the audience to spend money and watch the film on the big screen when pirated versions are already out. Also 'atleast a hit film' means what? Isn't that actually the barometer of measuring acceptance with the audience? I mean the film is nearing the litime collections of films like Pari,Hichki,Jagga Jasoos and October starring bonafide established actors. What else is needed for the film to be accepted?

Also, unlike box office results, there's no data available about how many people are actually going back to watching Sairat online after Dhadak and whether it has given more popularity to Sairat in the non Marathi speaking belt. Provided that the english subtitled version of Sairat is only available on Netflix and the Indian audiences habit of preffering dubbed content over subtitled, it is less likely that they are going to pay Rs.500 online just to watch an english subtitled Sairat on a site like Netflix. Unless your soucre of information is IF and social media which does not constitute the large movie going public in India. Probably the reason why Dhadak still got accepted and earned this much despite all the comparisons and brickbats wrt Sairat which made Dhadak look like a blasphemous attempt at remaking films when this is not the first film to be have been officially adapted in Bollywood with all rights in place.

Sairat has not just struck gold at the box office but has found appreciation on a number of national and International Film Festivals which will never be the case with Dhadak. Sairat's director made the feel on his personal references and experiences which makes it shockingly real. that feel can't be developed in a remake. only nagarjule himself can go pass Sairat himself.

I forgot to add this, I think there are three things that I felt was better in Dhadak than Sairat,

1) Madhukar's character- I thought it was a more fleshed out character than Parshya in the original. I liked that even in the second half, Madhukar has equal importance as that of Parthavi. I somehow could never connect or feel bad for Parshya in the original because all the attention went to Archie's character but here ,especially in the second half, the way they show him trying to work hard in the restaurant, grasping a foreign language and honestly trying to not just give a better life to Parthavi but also help him grow up from that starry eyed lover boy Madhu from Udaipur. Also, unlike Shashank's earlier two films and several such other BW films based on heartland India, Madhu is a very unlikely BW hero. He is dreamy yes, but there's a lot of innocence in his love.

He falls in love with Parthavi and jumps into the pond carelessly and later cries his heart out because he has bruised his leg. He asks for Parthavi's consent when he wants to kiss her instead of going all macho and doing anything without consent. I also liked how his fear regarding Parthavi's family was the same till the end of the film since he probably was so affected by what they did to him in Udaipur for no fault of his. He is also the one who asks Parthavi to take a job, tries his best to make her happy yet at the same time brings his masculine insecurity in front when he thinks he is being betrayed by Parthavi who earlier refused to share chaat with him at Victoria Memorial but happily eats it when her boss offers the same. And at the end realizes his mistake and he is the one to go back to parthavi with guilt in his mind.

And all of this coming from Shashank, whose first two films had such one tone, horrendous and caricaturish male leads in Humpty and Badri, I think Madhu was a breath of fresh air, a very unlikely Dharma hero and a much better etched out character than Parshya, very nicely performed by Ishaan.

2) The friends- I'm glad they gave a closure to the friends in this film which I thought was completely missing in the original. The friends in Sairat were so well etched, especially Pradeep. There are so many beautiful moments with the friends be it near the train where they are dancing or the nail sequence that you're so invested in them but after them running away, they just disappear. I always wondered what happened to them because Archie only takes Parshya and runs away. I was glad to see Dhadak giving closure to the friends angle and also showing how they were affected because of Parthavi and Ishaan running away.

3)Vaara re- I think this is what I enjoyed the most in Dhadak which made the climax effective for me. I really liked that they elongated the post patch up sequence of Madhu and Parthavi before the climax. Be it the starting with Parthavi naughtily dropping off the ghoonghat connecting to the dream sequence of Madhu with which the film starts, that shot of Bhowmick Da getting inspired by their PDA and trying to give a flying kiss to his wife, the tram sequence, Madhu joining the club, the whole pregnancy sequence and them trying to search for a better house and the final track out with them sleeping with the baby. The detailing of the whole after marriage sequence of Madhu and Parthavi makes the climax even more heartbreaking when you see that the whole Vaara Re sequence could've been an indication of a beautiful future, suddenly snatched away from them for no fault of theirs. It makes the climax very effective, especially the way they showed it. Atleast for me.
