The actual celeb screening is happening today at YRF. I guess Shahid and Arjun will be watching it today. Get ready for the rave reviews and tweets tomorrow. 😆

I forget adding this everytime but I think the reason why I'm so kicked about this film more than anything else is because finally I can take my parents or ask my cousins to watch the hindi version of Sairat. They don't like watching films in a language they don't know and hate subtitles so I think I'm really happy that they can finally watch it in Hindi and even if it's half as good as Sairat, I'll be content because Sairat is such a film that needs to be told to the whole country, knowing the environment we are living in today.

Screening reviews-

@shibaniwrites-I haven't seen Sairat but #Dhadak is heartbreaking and happy and all things in between. #Ishaan and #Jhanvi glitter with the charm of uncut diamonds under the baton of @ShashankKhaitan. Wonderful time at the cinema @karanjohar @apoorvamehta18 @DharmaMovies All the very best!
.

@tahira_k-What a wonderful movie! #dhadak @ShashankKhaitan makes you gush, smile, cry and experience an emotion that you seldom feel...makes you numb too...It's a beautiful journey! Congratulations

I would tell your family the same I told my parents. They are highly attached to language and not content and they are missing out. I always encourage to listen to music from languages they do not know. I had to coax them gently to watch Narcos. It was something they did not like in the beginning but once they opened up the story and acting took over. Art should not be limited to language I feel. If we open up our world we can experience the diversity of art. IMO of course

^That's true but there's a completely different connect altogether when it comes to understanding the dialogues in a talkie. Like for example, it's a completely different feeling for me to listen to Pehli Baar and Yaad Lagla. I think the attachment and connection is more towards the hindi song which I can understand. So I guess that's what keeps them away from a movie of a different language if not dubbed. Add to that, my family only watches movies at the theatre so there's always this whole thing of the movie being worth watching in which understanding it plays an important role. I've tried so hard to make them watch Sairat on Netflix but have failed miserably. 😆

My Hindi is not very good and my Marathi is non-existent. But the first time I saw Yaad Lagle which was on Netflix when I watched Sairat, I was able to connect to it because of the well. I have heard stories from my dad about the village well and people bathing in it. Next the music, the soaring orchestra background juxtaposed to a rural setting. Illayaraja Sir does that in Tamil films sometimes. It felt familiar, logical, natural and not inserted. The first love emotions were so stark there.

Pehli Baar even though I understood the words, I did not connect with the content because it did not make sense. A snake infested pool and people sitting around it. The boy jumps into bodies of water illogically, the wearing shorts and taking bath in a bathroom with a closed door. Felt forced and just there, not authentic or organic. Most of the thing was "see this is Udaipur, look at the lovely architecture". Few like the scene with the big Shiva where he worships while running, the running on the papad (which of course is based off Sairat) felt authentic.

One thing about Netflix is the more I see world cinema and TV, the more I look for authenticity with high production values. In BW fake is passed off as "high production value". IDK, I just don't connect to it as I once did as a child especially with Dharma movies which were my fave as a kid. 😆

I mean he seems to have given up on Sid and prefers Varun over him though it was the exact opposite when they started out 😆 So I definitely think KJo will be conflicted if Jahnvi does well. And if Alia's films start flopping, I have no doubt that KJo will flip 😆 Just because he loves Alia more than the rest, I don't think he'd let that override his basic character 😆 That said, I don't really blame him. He is a businessman at the end of the day and is not out to do charity. I only have a problem with his never ending penchant for drama 😆

@choco- I know. And most of star kids in the recent past have had horrible debuts. Ranbir, Varun, Alia etc. They proved themselves only in their subsequent films. And if Alia can be hyped for Highway and called Meryl Streep (I found her pretty inconsistent in the film though I believe she has improved a lot post that), Jahnvi will be set for the next few years if she delivers a decent performance in her very first film 😆

P. S. Call me biased but RK deserved the hype post WUS cos he was fantastic in the film IMO 😆 And Varun wasn't that hyped initially. He had to deliver quite a few successful films till he was acknowledged. And i don't think he was ever dependent on KJo beyond a point. In fact am pretty sure KJo is primarily signing him cos he has proved himself. Anyway my point is that a star kid from an illustrious family doing well in his or her first film will be made a big deal. And am really curious to see what KJo does if it happens 😆

Yes but it takes quite a few flops before KJo gives up. Look how many movies he did with Kareena -- all flops/disasters besides K3G and we know why that worked. It's not like he gave her terrible films either. He is of course a businessman so he will dump Alia when she starts flopping. Alia benefited from no female competition in Dharma. Now Dharma is launching 4 other girls and they will have 3 film deals and probably get a cut of their earnings as well. They will likely make something work for the more popular ones like YRF does as at the end of the day, that's how they make money.

Ranbir was majorly boring in his first 2 films...Saawariya and BAH. WUS was good yes...but Ranbir came at a time of no male competition. There was only Ranbir and Imran...and we know how Imran was. Anyways, Ranbir is star kid royalty so it never mattered how he did -- he survived his worst flop phase without getting paycuts as well. Someone else would have been kicked out. Jahnvi is star kid royalty. Sara IMHO isn't as big royalty as Janhvi but she will and has gotten enough media attention. Alia was turned into royalty by KJo and his media contacts. Suhana will probably be the next most privileged launch ever. These people like I said just have to be able to act 5-10% well and everyone will behave like BW has been saved and the frontrunners will be star kid loyalists like Masand.

Anyways, like I said, I don't see Janhvi as someone who will stay dependent on KJo/Dharma..that's not to say she'll reject his films. Arjun, Anil, and Sonam were never dependent on any one PH either and I'm sure her entire family is there to warn her against doing that. Boney put together Mom for Sridevi..I'm sure he'll go all out for his daughter as well when he has to.

Oh for sure. Ranbir majorly benefitted from lack of competition. He is good and chose great films post WUS but it really did help that there was no competition. And yeah, Fox Star actually kept working with Ranbir even after BV. I don't see that happening with an outsider ever 😆 Yes he is talented but he has survived the flop phase and incessant drama in his personal life mainly because of his pedigree. Am sure he understands that too.

Alia is in a similar position though (to RK in 2012) so it will be interesting to see where she goes from here esp when KJo is launching a bunch of debutantes this year 😆 I know KJo has helped Kareena and a lot of star kids in the past but I don't think he has actively lobbied and collaborated with other film makers just to give them the best films like he does with Alia so Alia is truly a unique case 😆 She has made good use of the opportunities and it's a win win for everyone involved but would be interesting to see how it changes once KJo has more options. Also I don't think Sonam has ever become huge stars ala a Deepika or Katrina. She has managed reasonably well but I'd like to believe Jahnvi wants more like her mom so am pretty sure she does not want to just rely on Boney or KJo producing films for her 😆

^ KJo never launched any star kids prior to SOTY though and before that time he was not really powerful enough to do this lobbying and collaborating, especially when Kareena was working. Ranbir, he was in a better position, but he has tried to get Ranbir films as well --granted it was BV and backfired. 😆
KJo's position makes a difference as well. If this was 15 years ago, he would be preoccupied with other actors and his own career and wouldn't bother doing this for Alia. Since SOTY, it is only now that he is launching newcomers again. So it remains to be seen what he does.
