Dhadak Has Good First Day
Saturday 21 July 2018 10.45 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Dhadak gad a good opening day of around 8.50 crore nett which is the highest opening day for a film featuring newcomers. The film scored well outside the metros especially in Nizam and CP Berar and in these places the Marathi film Sairaat from which this film has been remade was widely watched.

The numbers are also good in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan and Gujarat but places like Delhi city, East Punjab and Mysore are on the lower side. There is a a lot of scope of improvement in the collections in the metros so it could jump on Saturday but it could also be that the content is more suited to the Hindi belts.

Despite the good start it will need to show a reasonable jump as only then can the film have a chance to sustain from Monday. The opening pretty much ensures the film is safe on a start like this but there has to appreciation for the newcomers to gain from the film.

#Dhadak takes a HEROIC START... Rarely does a film starring absolute newcomers open so well... Day 1 is higher than #StudentOfTheYear [ 8 cr]... Fri 8.71 cr. India biz.

Good start. If the WOM is good, it can easily touch the 80-90 cr range.

It rarely happens a movie starring newbies getting good reviews on IF, forget in general. Should go check it out.

This happens even with well made adaptations. For example, Viraasat is a well made film IMO yet I could never really get myself to fully appreciate it cos of how much I liked the original Tamil film. So its not surprising that the same thing is happening with Dhadak. It doesnt help that Sairat is fresh in everyones memory and it was raw and gritty while this is a KJofied version of the same. Khaitan was never going to make something amazing anyway. That said, the WOM seems a lot better and even Jahnvi-Ishaan are getting better reviews than most other star kids did in recent times in their first film. I mean it cant be worse than a Saawariya or SOTY 😆

Yep, I think it's fine to love the original more (I've very rarely if ever seen a remake/inspiration be better than the original anyways) or to compare even (after all the film used the popularity of the original to create hype so it muts be ready to take the brickbats too). If not, Dharma could have just had it be another tragic romance a la QSQT, EDKL, Ishaqzaade, Aashiqui 2, Ranjhanaa etc without trying to remake Sairat. That being said, I think critics should at least try to be objective and judge a film for itself rather turning their reviews into only comparison topics. I can't figure out if they have genuine problems with the film or if their issue is only in comparison to Sairat.

Agreed. Most critics are trash though. They are either sell outs or extremely prejudiced or pseudo-intellectuals. And at the end of the day, it is their subjective opinion so I don't really take any critic review seriously (apart from say Bharadwaj Rangan and a couple of others only because I like the way they write). Its better to rely on WOM but even that is highly distorted on twitter and paid for 😆 I actually feel member reviews here on IF are relatively more reliable and you can take a call depending on what kind of films you like to watch (and of course the actors involved).
