Its probably one of his best films and best performances (lot better than Sanju in fact except Sanju is minting money). This is exactly why I think he is disillusioned with his failures. Ayaan sounded the exact same way post WUS and the result was YJHD. Which might have made loads of money but WUS is the better film by leaps and bounds. I understand BO is important but its sad when good films don't make money and actors/directors end up sticking to the same formula which they think works at the BO. Ranbir in Rocket Singh or Ranveer in Lootera or Varun in October can rank over all their blockbuster hits so this is definitely sad

Ranveer knows that Lootera was a good movie because of critical acclaim and he gets very happy when people praise it. So did Rocket Singh not get critical acclaim?

He did the same to Saawariya too by practically disowning it at some point but in one of the recent Sanju promotion interviews he chose Saawariya over YJHD saying it will always be close to his heart(which made me happy as I thought he was fantabulous in Saawariya- both he and Sonam actually)...So hopefully he will go back on what he said and eventually will lap up Rocket Singh too...After all, people's perceptions and favorites keep changing!

Saawariya was crap though IMO 😆 And it's not about his personal opinion. Am pretty sure he still loves Rocket Singh, will choose WUS over YJHD and JJ over ADHM. He also loves Rockstar and thinks Tamasha is his best performance till date 😆 His personal taste and favourites are still the same. What I think is that he is disillusioned by a lot of those films failing. In Anupama's IV, he was surprised people loved Tamasha (I was too 😆) and asked how come no one went to the theatre 😆 He still likes those films but is not sure anymore about them being good choices after they failed. That's the vibe I got from his Rocket Singh answer too. It is probably not a good film cos it did not make money. It's sad in a way because he did someone of his best work pre YJHD when he made some unconventional choices. And am pretty sure that Ranbir wouldn't have chosen a Luv Ranjan film. Anyway hope success makes him more confident and he starts reading scripts and ditches this 'good cinema is what makes money' perspective 😆

Maybe it's also got to do with making his father proud? In the Anupama interview he talked about his father's reaction to Barfi and it seems Rishi isn't keen on the arty movies. Also he was talking about masala movies and the Khans and so it seems he wants to be able to leave an impression on the larger public.

Really nice interview. Enjoyed reading RK's answers, he definitely is in a better place now with Sanju grossing 200+ cr, happy for him. I don't mind him doing Luv Ranjan's movie or Shamshera because I think he does need to do some different movies now, the WUS/Tamasha/Rockstar/YJHD/ADHM man-child roles are too similar, and an action movie like Shamshera and even Brahmastra sound different, more like a challenge for RK, which I hope to see he does well in.

I'm glad he hasn't dissed Tamasha yet, I was one of the (very few 😆) people who enjoyed Tamasha, Ranbir and Deepika in it, and related to Ranbir's character and Ved's conflicts immensely - it probably was his and DP's best performances for me till date, I didn't see Anupama's interview with him so missed out all the Tamasha love there, thanks for sharing rogerrocks.

I was referring to this Q&A session-

There was one guy who said Tamasha changed his life 😆 Personally I'd rather watch 3 Idiots if I wanted some inspiration for living my dream 😆 I agree about the performances. DP's best is Piku IMO and RK's best is Rockstar and Barfi but they were brilliant in Tamasha (RK in the second half to be precise cos I hated the first half). I honestly think he loves Imtiaz but is wary of working with him post Tamasha and his own disillusionment thanks to the successive failures. Thats literally the only good thing to come out of this cos I cant stand Imtiaz's films 😆
