She is questioning that. (Why should there be a dress code?).

But whether there is dress code or not, it looks awkward to stand out. Why should she have problem with Indian women wearing gowns in Oscars?

Having said, I would to see women in Indian dress in our national award ceremony.

that is exactly what she is saying...double standards...

Jaya Jaitly: "When somebody in a village in India says Sar dhako (cover your head), we don't want that... When somebody says, Don't wear jeans in college', we say Who are you to tell us a dress code?'. But if Queen in England descends an invitation and say you got to wear a hat, which is not part of your culture, you will start saying there was a dress code. I don't understand these various double standards

It was a private event.. a marriage of her friend..she can wear what she wants.
If she was representing India, then she would have worn a sari or salwar kameez.

The Indian NGO members wore sarees to the wedding - yes there is a dress code for guests but it's not compulsory, even if you don't wear a hat or wear a different cultural outfit you will be allowed in of course. It's a different situation from restricting/banning something generic like jeans or expecting women to cover their head out of sharm or whatever BS.

LOL! One needs to dress according to the function you are attending. In Sonam's wedding, nobody wore a gown and similarly in a British wedding, it looks odd to wear a sari. Why should one represent their country even in functions? Why even wear a sari or any other dress if they don't want to? People just like to judge and dictate.

why do you have to stick the indian badge everywhere you go, dumbass logic, India or any country is represented by what goes on inside there, Pc dressing in a Sari isn't going to cover the rape fetish and borderline extremism we represent India in these ways not by some woman wearing a Sari. Har ek ke G mein dhikawe ke liye deshbhakti daalna

It's a church wedding with a strict dress code, why would she wear a sari and draw attention away from the bride? Most foreigners are courteous enough to wear traditional attire at Indian weddings, at the least we can extend the same respect for their dress code.

That's a bandgala (?) tho, which is a part of traditional Indian dress. 😛
