They sold their morals/ethics if they had any for a small tax cut or whatever their goal was. So for them to be offended by a show is small fry compared to what DT says.

In fact, I think the stereotype is true. There are tons of Indians that own liquor and convenient stores.

While I agree with bold part, can't believe that they deserved to be mocked bcz they voted for DT?

Still majority Indians voted for HIllary...

But it shouldn't matter who they voted for

Comedy need not be casually racist to be funny. People irl have been affected by what Simpsons have done. Thats never okay. Also the fact that literally no poc opinion was taken while making Apu,thats dangerous. Apu is a character seen through a white man's eyes and voiced by non-poc. So representation wise too it's a failure. Its high time we don't let white people define what we are. And that was the point of the documentary.

Actually majority of Indians voted for Donald Trump. His campaign ads were playing every single day on Dish Network. And, they aren't being mocked. Its a stupid stereotype that needs to be laughed at instead of being all rowdy about it. Homer Simpson is a stereotype of fat lazy American. You don't see Americans being rowdy about it? What about the Russian mob in the simpsons? The entire show is based on stereotypes. And I agree with the stereotype b/c it started out in the 80s when you had all the newly arrived immigrants owning stores and running them. What's wrong about a history of Indians coming here? Yes, it has changed, but the show itself is a comedy. Indians love privilege yet it reeks of lot of self importance in America.

You must've never seen Indian movies where Priyanka Chopra sleeps with a black man in Fashion... how guilty she feels. or how they use Indian men wearing black face to present black men in the movies.

#hypocrites.

Ofcourse I've seen Fashion. Indian movies in general are racist, sexist, homophobic, misogynistic. They promote stalker culture and 'no' means you gotta persist.Because India still is all those things. Indians are racists as well. And they need to be called out for it as well. But that doesn't nullify the racism Indians face or the desi community faces. If you are calling Priyanka hypocritical, ofcourse she is. But what does that have to do with what am saying or the Apu issue.

Wow. Y'all need to see the documentary yourself. Its exactly for people like you. 😆 FYI,stereotyping an entire race is casual racism.

Why do stereotypes exists? stereotypes exists everywhere, in all cultures, in all societies, here in the UK in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, many newsagents and corner shops were owned by Indians, that became a stereotype, but it was true, if you walked into a newsagent, chances are, it would've been owned by an Indian. There used to be a joke, why don't Indian's play football, because every time they take a corner, they open a cornershop. 😆 Today, many newsagents are owned by Turks, many kebab shops are owned by them, many petrol stations owned by Sri Lankans, many pharmacies are owned by Indians. Stereotypes exists because of an over representation of a group in a particular field, we've become so sensitive now, that people get butthurt over anything, even if it's just humour.

Stereotypes can exist all they want. But if it's affecting a generation of people in a negative way, if it's causing casual racist remarks to be thrown then thats a problem. Apu hasn't represented Indians, its made a caricature of Indians / brown people/desi community to the point that the generations after known as the smelly curry people. Its a figment of a racist white person's imagination. Now if people say 'why are you taking it so seriously, its just a joke' then it should be first directed to people who have made an idea of Indians/desis through it and made it matter in real life. If they didn't,there won't be any problem with Apu. It would considered just a standalone character but it wasn't.

Simpsons makes fun of Chinese, Italian people as well. It might not be right but its not exclusive to Indians. And i am sure Priyanka made up the story about being teased, she falsifies her accounts a lot just to fit in.
