Avengers - Infinity War is looking to set the box office on fire initially as it takes one of the biggest advances of all time and that is not just for Hollywood films in India but Hindi films also. The advance pace of the film till Tuesday close of business is second only to Bahubali - The Conclusion.
The number of tickets sold may not be second best but the nett gross advances till Tuesday evening beat every single outright Hindi film including Tiger Zinda Hai, Sultan and Dangal which were all holiday releases. It remains to be seen where it ends by Thursday evening but if gets into second place it will be shocking as the two top advances will be non Hindi releases.
This has never happened in the history of Indian cinema where Hindi cinema has ruled the roost and now we may have to witness that the biggest pre release craze is a Telegu and Hollywood release.
There was a teaser released of a big film Sanju which was labelled a blockbuster by the media and trade and it could well become a blockbuster, time will tell but the teaser was definitely not blockbuster material. While this bumping up a teaser was going on by the usual circus which does not matter in the final picture, the ground reality was that a foreign film was making inroads where it does matter and that is with the public who are snapping up tickets like there is no tomorrow.
Avengers - Infinity War is releasing on around 2000 screens and that is not the biggest release but if this rate of advance continues on Wednesday and Thursday then it will no surprise if it takes the biggest opening of the year despite a release in terms of screens which is far less than a big Hindi film.
There are two days to go for the advance and it could slow as so many tickets have been sold already. It is a surprise that the film is ahead of the likes of Sultan and Tiger Zinda Hai till now and it will be bigger surprise if it finishes ahead of these films on Thursday evening but the possibility is there.
